...is close and I'm getting nervous.
Like a newborn baby, I'm going to take it out of the box, set it on the labour bench, and make sure it has 10 fingers and 10 toes... no dead pixels, no yellow screen, no whine, no loose trackpad.
If everything goes well I can breathe a sigh of relief...

I should have mine by Saturday too! Already ordered 4gb ram from Crucial, a new Belkin "cushtop" stand to rest it on my lap and a New Crumpler Cheesy Disco bag. The anticipation.

So question is.... Glossy or matte?Which one did you get?

Hehe! That was me with my first MBP too. Obv tis MBP season, expecting mine soon, but then again thats been on the cards for months so the excitement is more controlled at this stage! oh and MATTE all the way!

Oh well 440 we had this convo already hehe! I'm upgrading from a Powerbook g4 so hoping to be pleased with this. The cheesy disco bag any good?

Yup, cant go wrong with Crumpler tbh, its a small bit heavy but at least its protected. Having the inner sleeve is very handy too. Looking forward to lightening the load with the slightly lighter new generation MBP.

Which model did you go for su_dios? Just curious if you are pimping it with another 4GB! nice ;)

I got the basic 15" 2.2GHz. Was reading up on the net and its a 9% difference at 125% the cost. So went for basic and maxed the ram to 4gb. Hopefully they will upgrade the hdd instore(go in one day and come back to pick it up another in NY). If not no biggie.. I have a 300gb external drive here. I'll mainly be running autocad through parallels on it thats why I needed the extra ram. They're lighter? Didn't know that now. How big are those bags? I just needed something that will fit the laptop, charger and then pen case and 2 or 3 books/notepads for college. I think I'm going for a fresh start..not using the migration assistant.

Its just the right size for a 15" widescreen. The Crumpler size sheet recommends going for the Sticky Date (big logo) model which holds 15" wide and 17". I bought that and sent it back, it was MASSIVE. Went with the Cheesy Disco instead then. I has enough room for folders, charger, mouse, extra bits, lots of pockets and the internal removable sleeve. You will be very happy with it I'd say. The strap is very comfy as well, made out of the same material as a seat belt.

Yeah its a big jump in cost alright. But i guess you are paying Apple prices for the extra HD, and higher spec graphics card and processor. Depends on individual needs really. RAM is the same on all models, so you'd be upping that anyway. I certainly plan to :D

Slightly lighter, slightly thinner. Few small changes that make a nice difference, aside from the speed eg. new display (backlight technology), a new logic board with more memory capacity and updated Core 2 Duo CPU from Intel, and nVidia's new GeForce 8600M GT mobile graphics processor. YUMYUM! Can't wait.

Even more excited for this now! Can't wait. Bag sounds great too. Bought it off ebay but still ended up paying a lot for it. Hopefully it'll be the right one. I just found the 2.4 unnecessary really. I will possibly upgrade the hdd later(unless the apple store will do it for me). I'll have to find a good home for this powerbook now.

    Oh, matte all the way.
This is my second baby :)
May I highly highly recommend these two products:

    Also, why 4GB RAM?
I have a 24" iMac, with 2Gb RAM, running Photoshop, Lightroom, Dreamweaver along with the usual pile of apps, and I still haven't used up all of it.
Is there really a need for 4gb?

Like everything else, depends on what you are using it for. Your average user will get on fine with 2GB. Personally, I require more. Audio programming on 2GB just isnt enough, esp when you try running apps like Lightroom, inDesign etc. I would certainly suggest min 2GB for any audio/video work.

Urgh! Colours! Don't they know im incapable of making decisions  hehe

altho, ill most likely stick to black or grey. Thing with the screen protector is a sheet of paper wld do the job too, but its a gizmo, and I love gizmos and gadgets! ;)

    and oh....

wasnt it Friday that you were having a conniption fit about it not arriving for a month!! :D Gees, its great to be right all the time ;) hehe

I'm getting 4gb ram as I'll be doing some 3d rendering, good bit of 3d modelling(basic-ish) and I'll be running autocad2007 through parallels. I'll be dedicating about 3gb to parallels when I use it. Also for the price of it it was well worth the upgrade!

What's with all these sleeves and screen protectors? I get on just fine without such gimmicks. :D

That being said, I just accessorised by ordering a Laptop Armor case from Matias. Shipping to Ireland does not cost any extra, and they ship from their European warehouse in Amsterdam, so it should not take too long to arrive. I will post my first impressions as soon as I get it. Link here:

(I got the Black Aluminium 15" model)

Yeah they are just gimmicks!! I didnt bother with my first few machines, but then I started selling em on and decided wrapping it up in cotton wool does have its benefits :)

Well, the little thing arrived today - and appendages are intact.
No dead pixels, loose trackpad buttons, and any of the other annoyances that people complain about. :)

powerbooks used to get imprints from the keys on the screen, so I guess its protection against that.

yeah same with the MBPs. But a sheet of A4 or the thing that comes with the original packaging does the job just as well, just wont look as nice, but its free!! :)

I just had the pleasure of spending the evening with a new 15" MBP.

Unfortunatly it's not mine! My friend Jodie just got one and it was my job to install all the apps and get everything ready.

Super machine, chewed up most tasks without even a gurgle.

As a proud macbook owner, I cant help but envy the fantastic screen on the MBP.
