I'm looking to widen the entrance to our driveway - its a very standard wall at with two pillars - we're probably the only house that hasn't done it in the road.

Do I need to submit full planning for it or is there a short way of doing it ?? - ie do I need to get drawings etc.

    any help gratefully received

    Andi

you simply fill out a form (download from most LA websites) for this. They do require that the work is either carried by them paid by you or by a contractor approved by them

Does that apply to the actual entrance widening ? I thought that the local authority just did the dishing ?

If this is a pedestrian only gateway and you are converting it to a vehicular entrance I think that you will require PP. A neighbour of mine converted on this basis and got caught out by planning control. He had to apply for permission to retain and I think those application carry a higher fee than normal PPs.

If it is just to widen and exisiting vehicular entrance you might get away without PP. However, I would take a few photos and do a reasonable sketch of what is proposed with some measurements and ask your local planning department first if you actually need PP as that might save you some grief at a later date.

Technically you do need planning although I have heard of a couple of local authorities going soft on this. The problem you may have is that the roads dept will be responsible for the dishing and they may well ask for a copy of the PP.

You wont need drawings as such - location + site layout maps would suffice but always best to check with your local planning dept. in advance.
