Hi. I'm Irish and living in Brussels.

I want to get a SKY DIGIBOX and was thinking of buying one off Ebay.

    Just concerned about 3 things:

    1. Having the latest version software: Will this be an issue for me? How exactly do you insure you have the latest software? How is it updated?

    2. Viewing Card: If i buy a box off Ebay - can i then contact SKY for a viewing card? Obviously want to get around the issue of installation seeing i'm living overseas. Even a SKY Free to View (FTV) card would be enough for me right now.

    3. The Digibox: Would a 'THOMSON DSI4214C SKY DIGITAL BOX' be ok to begin with? I guess if i decide later to purchase packages this would work for me?

Not very knowledgable on this Satellite Technology so please excuse any stupid/ wrong questions. Thanks in advance!

    1. It won't be an issue with decent reception. Updates are sent to the box automatically. You can also force a download of the latest software by turning off the box, remove the card [if any] and plug back in while holding down the 'back up' button on the digibox. It takes a few minutes. Be sure to have your satellite well aligned before doing it. You don't want to mess up a box!

    2. If you want an Irish viewing card to allow you to watch our terrestrial channels, you'll need to provide Sky with an Irish address. You can also get these online but they come at a price. Contact Sky, looking for a second hand subscription to get just the viewing card seeing as you'll have the box already. You'll need to pair/'marry' the card to the box. An Irish phone line makes this easier but, honestly, you don't actually need a phone line.

    3. I did a quick search for that box. Is that the latest one Sky provide? You might prefer to get a Sky+ box instead so that you can watch something while recording something else or even record two programmes at the same time.
