Beginner Drumkit??

    First of ,hello all!

Anyway..I am thinking of starting to play the drums but need some advice before I make any major purchases.

One concern to me is that I will buy drums but then realise that I am rubbish and it'l be a big waste of money. Is this likely ,because a lot of raw talent is needed, or is it just a matter of practicing and picking it up over time?

Another concern is of noise and space. I live in a average sized semi-detached house that is a bit short a big spaces ,so you can see the problems facing me. Would an electric drumkit suit my conditions more ? Are they as good as the real thing (particularly the Acoustic Solutions one in the Argos catalogue) ? I have a feeling there would be a horrible delay of sound on those things that would just spoil the whole experience.

Im pretty much in the dark about this stuff so any help will be appreciated, thanks!

    PRACTICEE PRACTICCCEE!

And, if you can help it, DO NOT get an electric kit. I hate them but maybe that's personal choice.

Good feedback! You not think you have to have a certain talent to play the drums in any decent way?

Any particular reasons why you hate them? Not trying to be a shrink or anything its just they seem to be my only option.

drum kits are really loud so youd need to have the right environment to play em , you might be pissing off neighbours etc

Well, they just don't feel right to play to be honest.

And of course you need certain talent, but, with everything, if you practice. You'll get good. Just might take longer without a great talent.

Go into your neighbours and say "I'm getting a drumkit and will be playing between 4pm - 6pm" etc. They'll appreciate it. ;)

www.thomann.de/ie - You can get some cheap acoustic sets there. I got my first kit- Sonor 505 for 488 on it

Personally, I think electronic kits are better. You can just pop on the headphones and jam away, disturbing nobody. But, they are very expensive.

Yeah I wasn't keen on buying anything from argos.

Some cheap enough electronic kits on that site but can anyone tell me if electronic kits sound authentic enough when played? Used to have one of those small Electronic bongo type drums and the delay from them was just horrible.

Most of them sound OK- id be wary of a cheaper one though

there are ones on thomann for around 500... does anyone know if they'd be worthwhile getting? I've been getting lessons for a while now and really need a set, but an acoustic set is a bit big and loud for having in my house

    These ones look ok http://www.thomann.de/ie/millenium_mps_200_e_drum_komplett_set.htm

They'd b grand for playing away at home. Might even do for a gig or two.

From a learning prospective, I go to a guy for lessons with an E-kit. For some reason I find it easier to pick up rhythms on the e-kit...i also quite like the sound

You could always sell them after a while

    My fav. are these http://www.thomann.de/ie/roland_td12k-bk_mds-12-bk_vdrum.htm
Drum teacher has em, I Love them!
