Can you use Laser Cards on UK websites that accept Maestro?

    Hi All,

I realise that many banks now co brand Maestro and Laser cards, but can anyone tell me if they have successfully used a Laser Card (co branded or not) on a UK (or anywhere outside Ireland) website for that matter?

A lot accept maestro, but I'm not sure if a laser card would work.

    Thanks in advance

I *think* the UK version is different, but other countries will work with our version.

i used my AIB Banklink/Maestro/Laser card in a shop in the UK last weekend but when i was trying to order something from an english website with it the transaction was being cancelled saying they do not accept it but if u call the company in the uk that u are trying to buy from they will swear to you that you can use it on their site but as far as i am concerned from experience you cant use it on any uk site:confused:

Sites outside Ireland cannot accept Laser cards for card not present transactions. (inetrnet / phone / mail order)

Similarly Irish sites cannot accept UK or European debit cards for card not present transactions.

Basically the laser card number is attached to your bank account and until they have a completely integrated european banking platform for all banks Laser will not be accepted - thus the popularity of paypal, wirecard & 3v.

Only exception is if the site has an Irish bank account with a card system attached. - Rare but some places do.

Listen, this thread is 4 years old. No need to drag it back up ,especially when the question was already answered 4 years ago.
