    Hi,

Just moved into a new house in Phibsboro and wanna get a new broadband deal. I've also just being given an iMac running os 9.2 (iirc) which I am gonna upgrade to OS X. My housemate has a G4 running OS X. Neither machines have wireless capability but I'm told I can just sort this out with a USB/firewire external wifi modem. Is that right?

And my main question is should I expect issues with connecting to a wireless network in my home from an iMac/G4? As you might tell, I'm relatively new to the Apple Mac.

    Thanks a lot!

    Declan

I don't think you should be bumping your thread within an hour?!

Anyway.. what "G4" exactly does she have? ibook/powerbook/imac etc? Which one? If its a portable then she can pick up a cheap airport express card(wireless card) on ebay. I'm not sure if you can do the same with imacs? Maybe you can.. but it is an old one. The wireless usb thing is an option for the imac there. BT broadband has problems running wifi with macs but can be resolved if you get onto the right people. Just try eircom or someone else.
You'll have no problem with it actually. Oh and just realised, you will more than likely only need a wireless card for the "g4" assuming its a laptop as you can run an ethernet cable directly to the imac since it will be stationary.

Indeed! Actually, I wouldn't thinking bumping it on the same day is a good idea, and if you are going to its better to use *bump* or something... otherwise people might think you just fell asleep on the keyboard or something :D

Honestly... I wasn't sure when I read it first ;)

    uhhuh!

Best to go for a wireless router.. plug the iMac straight in and get a wireless solution for the portable. Easiest option. :) Best of luck and welcome to Macworld!

"MAC"? This isn't the lipstick forum!
There shouldn't really be any problem - a USB key will be able to sort you out.
Just make sure that's it's Mac compatible first!
Now I should probably go and read the other replies before mine!
