Scottish Rugby announced on Monday that Edinburgh Rugby Limited has confirmed that they wish to resign as an Associate Member of the SRU.
The resignation notice, which takes immediate effect, was sent by the club’s owner, Bob Carruthers, to SRU Secretary Graham Ireland.

As a result of Edinburgh Rugby's withdrawal from membership, and under IRB Regulations, no club or team that is a member of any Rugby Union and in membership of the IRB, is now permitted to play against Edinburgh Rugby.

Furthermore, as the club is no longer an Associate Member of the SRU, it is not entitled to be a member of the SRU Club Accident Insurance Scheme, which is only open to member clubs.

Therefore, Edinburgh Rugby's contracted players are no longer insured by the governing body scheme for the purposes of training or playing.
Edinburgh are in Leinster's group for next season's Heineken Cup alongside Toulouse and Leicester Tigers.

What's the point of this? What exactly are they trying to achieve? Except of course the death of another scottish side.

Do they plan on trying to join the English, Welsh or Irish associations?? I can't see any other way they plan to survive...very strange move.

What implications does this have on he ML and the HEC? A replacment team will have to be drafted into the group in order for the qualiying system to be fair...i.e. awarding 2 wins to the other group membrs wouldn't be fair on other teams in other groups, and judging points in this group on 4 games wont be fair for seedings and any chance the runner up team has...

And if there is a replacment team...from where? Who?

I think it's all sorted out now, nothing like a bit of a hissy fit to shake things up.
