Its a digital satellite receiver for all Free-To-Air TV and radio channels. You can plug into an existing sky dish (which is what I want to do as I've cancelled my SKY subscription and with Free to air satellite there is no monthly charge, no viewing card or phone line is needed) and receive BBC, ITV Film Four and many more channels from the Astra 2/Eurobird satellite.

The following channels are currently available from the Astra 2 satellite as well as many more.

National Broadcasters: BBC 1,2,3,4, (all regions) ITV 1,2,3,4 (all regions) S4C
Movies : Film Four, True movies
    Kids Channels: cITV, CBBC,Cbeebies,
News Channels: Sky News, BBC News 24,CNN, Euronews,
Music Stations : Chartshow TV, Classic FM TV,Classics TV ,Performance TV
    Entertainment: Reality TV,Fashion TV,Motors TV
Radio Stations: RTE , BBC and many more

    There is one here:
    http://http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/Smart_Rapido_Free_To_Air_satellite_receiver.html#aFerguson
    for €99.00 (Including VAT at 21%). :)

Could you not use your Sky box? That shows FTA channels and also allows you to use BBCi.

Yes you can, or should. Film4 will be where it always is - 315

For ITV etc, you have to do a workaround.

With your expired viewing card still in your digibox, go to Sky News, press Red to go into Sky News Active. Remove card, then press back up repeatedly to get back to Sky News.

Now press TV Guide button, then All Channels, and BBC1, 2, ITV1 should be there from 101-103 (it may take a while as EPG reloads). You'll find BBC Three, Four, ITV2, 3, 4, etc also on your EPG.

Of course, with a Skybox you could then purchase a UK Freesat from Sky card, which would unlock Channel 4, five, five US, five Life and Sky 3.

The software on your sky box may be out of date. You could try manually downloading Sky software changes:

Switch on the satellite channel on your tv in the usual way.
Now place your Sky digital receiver into standby using your handset.
Switch the receiver off at the mains.
On the front of the digital box itself (not the handset) press the button marked ‘Backup’.
With the button still depressed turn the digital receiver back on at the mains.
Keeping the ‘Backup’ button depressed, wait for all the l.e.d’s on the front of the box to light up. A message may also appear on your tv screen. This may take up to 30 seconds but you must keep the button depressed all the time and only when all the l.e.d’s all light up should you release the button.
It will take about 10-15 minutes to upgrade the software and when complete the box will automatically go into the standby mode.
Wait about a minute and you will then be able to turn the receiver on again using the handset.

This will not have any effect as the SKY listings are broadcast as a data stream and are not controlled by the software in the box.
