I went back through 5 pages of threads, and didn't see any mention about this (sorry ifs been mentioned already)

I just got a text from Vodafone regarding an update to their passport scheme (as a result of the recent roaming charges legislation in the EU).

    www.vodafone.ie/roam

Most EU countries are now covered, and more importantly, you don't have to select a network any more (charges are the same, no matter what network you are on).

Changes come in at the end of August (at the end of the holiday season... heh..)

yup, apparently they are now doing a flat-rate monthly add-on for roaming,

Very positive thing that they're not making you manually select a network now :)

These tarrifs don't seem to comply with the new EU laws.

The new EU law sets out that roaming charges should be capped at 49c per minute ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6682835.stm ) but the Vodaone page say that they will be charging 59C ... Am I reading somethings wrong or are Vodafone Ireland not complying with the new EU legislation?

    21% VAT perhaps?

The new EU rates are reasonable value for PAYG customers, if calls are fairly short.

49c is ex Vat (i.e. for postpaid), which in Ireland is 59c with Vat (i.e. for prepaid).

A lot of journalists forgot about the existence of VAT when reporting the new roaming rates.
