I have a scooter suzuki Katana 50cc, it is automatic. I have found recently I am never sure if it is going to accelerate quickly or not. He seems to be quick enough at times to 40km but sometimes does not go past it and when it does it is quick enough to accelerate between 40-60km.

It is just sometimes v annoying being stuck at 40kms is there any easy way to tune it so it is quick off the mark and continues accelerating quickly to its top speed?

It may be the automatic transmission , it is basically a belt between 2 pulleys. Both pulleys can expand/contract ,obviously when the front pulley expands then the rear one contracts to keep the tension reasonable on the belt.

Inside one pulley there are small weights , these are driven out by centrifugal force and cause the pulley to expand. Sometimes these weights get flat spots on them causing odd behaviour. You can get them in different sizes to alter the way it accelerates too. There could be other causes for your problem , thats just one of them

Thats looks a bit too complicated for someone of my very limited DIY capabilities. How fast would a non restricted 50cc scooter go? I currently get between 60-70km depending on wind on a flat road.

    60-70... That sounds about right.

if you want to go faster, get an A (or A1) licence category and a bigger moped or motorbike.

The moped engine could be on the way out too. Have you had it serviced recently?
