    Hi there,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I was wondering if anyone here ever had to take out a barring order on someone? After an 'eventful' weekend I'm considering it and was wondering how you go about doing it, what you need etc.
    Any help very much appreciated.
    Thank you

Yep.. D1ckhead ex of mine.. Just go to the Garda station and ask about it.. That was a good few years ago so can't really remember now exactly what it entailed but afaik it's easy enough to do..

They will only grant such an order if the person has been living with you for six of the last twelve months afaik.

You also have the option of seeking a harrassment order.

Best thing to do is see a lawyer. The whole process shouldn't cost any more than between 200 and 400 euro. including solicitorf fees

My sister got one about 18 months ago against her (hopefully soon to be ex) husband. It's not as straightforward as people are making out, a lot depends on the judge. My sister literally had to jump through hoops to prove what a nightmare he was making life for her and the kids because the judge didn't want to throw a man out of his own house. Your first step is to talk to the Gardaí, as it was only through their intervention that the judge finally relented because my sister had had to call them so often. They'll be able to give you an indication of whether you stand a chance of getting an order or not. The worst thing about my sister's case was the judge was a woman, you'd have thought she'd have been a little more sympathetic. Anyway, best of luck, I hope things work out OK for you.

Zaph, the Judge should remain impartial to gender, otherwise she would be viewed as being sexist.

There are specific time frames for a barring order, The police dont really know much bout it,they will tell you to go to the court for your area..

when you go in they will interview you and ask what happend and why you want the order...

they will give you a safety order first an interim one the judge will later sign that off on that day if they think you need one, majority of cases the will grant it as in 3 months time you will be back in court. the other party will get a chance to give there version of what happend. the judge will then decide if a protection order or barring orderingis appropriate depending on how long you'd been living with the person.....

The time frame there granted for is 1 year, 3 years or years.

    hope that helps...

From what I read and hear, Judges will side with the woman no matter what,
So you should be ok, Regardless...And No, I have never been in that situation.

Thanks for the comments. It's not even to do with a bloke. I'm not goin into details here in case the other person might read it. So sorry.
I didn't think it'd be an easy thing to get done. Just wanted some views from people who actually had some sort of experience of it.
    Cheers

I agree completely, but with this judge it was like she was doing everything she could to prove that she wasn't being sexist, and apparently has a history of it. She refused my sister's initial order request and only relented a couple of weeks later when things got dramatically worse. The Garda who was looking after my sister said he couldn't believe that the first request had been turned down given how bad the situation was even at that stage.

You might want to look up the domestic violence legislation.

Go to your District Court Office and it'll cost nothing.

There's been a huge amount of misinformation in this thread so go and talk to them and get the correct facts.
