Any idea where the photos are posted from ? guess not Ireland

Whats the estimated delivery time ?

    Cheers

Their print quality is great but I have never got a delivery from them in under 5 working days.
    I got some 12" x 10" prints done and they're very impressive!

I'd be interested in the alternatives to photobox.ie

I used to use pixdiscount.ie which are now the same as photobox.ie (unfortunatley)

I found pixdiscount cheaper and easier to deal with in terms of uploading photos etc.

    I was looking at foto.com and bonusprint.ie

foto.com - charge more to deliver to Ireland than anywhere else (USA or Afganistan !)

Bonusprint.ie - very rigid payment. I want to get some sort of discount if I am getting 200+ photos developed.

Any others worth looking at ?

Check out Kodak, SnapFish, or FujiPix.

They're fine for colour but not good for printing b+w as they always have a light brown colour cast on them.

I order two sets of photos from photobox using promotional codes on this site, delivery was quick enough. However, have to say I'm very disappointed with the quality of the prints (6" x 4.5") - has any else found this as well? Can anyone recommend an alternative?

On closer inspection some of my prints are a bit blurry when looking at the face of someone or something in detail that i focused on.

I see people have mentioned a couple of other places to get photos done, but has anyone experience of both Photobox and another company and how to the photos compare ?

I tried a bunch of them before settling on Photobox. There's a thread somewhere on the forum about it. I tried pixdiscount, FOTO, and some other high profile one, name escapes me at the moment. Photobox were the only ones to produce prints that more or less exactly matched what I had onscreen. Obviously the colors were a little off, as my monitor is calibrated in a sort of ad-hoc manner, but the sharpness, contrast, brightness etc were all as I intended. All the other places seemed to find it neccessary to oversharpen or bump up the contrast or make them lighter or darker or boost the saturation by some ungodly amount. So i settled on photobox, I've never had a bad print from them I'd have to say, including poster sized ones.

I have some prints, from photobox, where the detail is so sharp, you could cut yourself on it! If your prints aren't sharp, then it's probably more to do with the way they were taken, rather than the printing process.

spectraphoto.ie is also a good site to order prints from. I've used them many times and have never had an issue.

I ordered 100 prints from them on Sunday, (Ruu's credits were about to expire) and they were delivered today. I'm very happy with them, exposure and sharpness is just as I thought it should be.

I have the Canon S3 IS which takes amazing photos. My photos are typically ~3 MB in size and a lot of photos which look breathtaking on my LCD look like they were put through a cheap inkjet printer when they get back from photobox. I don't know, maybe it's just me but regardless I'm not inclined to use them again.

I'd be more inclined to think its something to do with your images than photobox :-) I've never gotten a bad print from them, and I've never heard anything bad about them. I'd check to see that your monitor is calibrated correctly. By 'cheap inkjet printer' do you mean that the colours were all wrong ? the contrast was off ? Did you sharpen the images before sending them ? If photobox receives an image with an embedded sRGB profile they will make no alterations to the image before printing it.

You might be better off with pixdiscount or FOTO which sharpen the image and boost the contrast and saturation before printing (in my experience), something which most people here are eager to avoid as they work up their pictures in photoshop or something similar before sending them to be printed.

No the colours are generally good, it's just the clarity or detail from the original image is lacking (they are uploaded unaltered and uncompressed btw). They don't look much better than if I printed them through my Epson R300 to be brutally honest.

Maybe my expectations are too high but I definitely got far superior prints from high street stores throughout my pre-digital days. I think I need to get my digital photos processed through other vendors in order to compare but, if photobox is the zenith of digital prints, it doesn't fill me with optimism.

It's hard to see an image properly on an LCD.
I've got two 12" x 10" prints at home, that I'd gladly show you, to demonstrate the quality of the print you'll get from PhotoBox.

If they're jpeg (and they are for Photobox) they're compressed by definition. It's a lossy algorithm.

I'm just about to receive my first batch from Photobox, a couple of enlargements including a 20x8 landscape. I'll let y'all know what I think.

Eagerly awaiting my first batch of freebies (thank you Ruu!), which I ordered on Saturday. Knowing my past form with the postal system I'm expecting them some time in October :) Anything before that I'll see as a bonus.
