just noticed, about 15 barely visible specs on my macbook pro, they are under the screen, has anyone had this? should there be any problem with a repair? These are quite new, definately not there when I bought it

probably dead pixels, a girl i know from college got a new macbook and noticed similar a few months later,
just a little cluster of them at about 9,2 (battleship co-ordinates)

didn't bother her, so she did nothing about it.
personally it'd drive me mental, especially if i was working on something.

dont think warranties cover dead pixels, well not little amounts anyway??
try one of those pixel fixer software things that flash colours like a mother fu*cker to try and free them.

probably not a good idea if you suffer from epilepsy.

You have to have at least 9 for apple to do anything about it.

i've 15 'spots', pretty sure its not dead pixels tho, as some are wider/taller than others, and i've seen dead pixels before, but not like this

    That would piss me off.
My work iMac was fine when it arrived, an hours later it had one dead pixel.
It still pisses me off to this day.
I have a new (personal) MBP coming, and I'm praying that everything's ok with it!

The very same thing happened to mine - they just appeared from nowhere one day last week. I called apple who told me that it's a known issue with the display (they're not dead pixels) and to drop it into their service centre in Dublin (Typetec) asap. I left it in last week but haven't heard back yet...

The spots look similiar to this:

hi mcsandwich, thanks for the info, certainly looks like the start of that, nowhere near as severe tho, just the grey dots. Did you need to get a reference from apple or did they just tell you to contact typetec? if its the latter have you a number for them? cheers for the info

did they tell you if the display will get upgraded to the new LED displays by any chance :D

Mine just has the dots too, but it looks like it could get a lot worse!

I called apple first, they didn't give me a reference, just said to contact Typetec (500 9000). They're in Ballymount.

[edit] They didn't say if the replacement would be the new one, fingers crossed! [edit]

Hoping to hear today, I'll let you know

    Update:

Typetec tell me that they're waiting for a new display from Apple since last week. I'm hoping this delay means Apple are waiting on new LED displays :)

They might not be dead, just 'lazy'! I had one or two on a Dell monitor. Only noticed a few months later. Fixed it though. Try tapping the area where the dead pixels are gently a couple of times.

My Dell 20" has 5 dead pixels, and my Samsung 19" has 4 dead pixels. Luckily I've never had a dead pixel on an Apple product before, but I put that down purely to luck, as all brands seem to have them.

Ok, the latest is that Apple are awaiting a delivery of new displays - expected by 18/07. It looks like I won't have mine back until 20th :(

An update: I called Typtec yesterday and they still hadn't received a replacement from Apple (after 3 weeks of waiting!). I had called customer relations at Apple earlier in the week to let them know I wasn't happy about the situation and the asked me to call back on Friday. when I called them back yesterday they agreed it was taking too long and offered me a replacement (latest model) Macbook Pro - which I accepted! Apparently replacement screens for the old model are no longer available..
