Right I need some advice, I've started to play guitar again, and I'm gonna sell my Marshall MG100 Halfstack. With the money I'd like to buy a decent small amp, but I have no idea what...

I'd be able to spend around 400 sterling/550 euro, maybe a bit more, I only need an amp that's about 30-50 watts and that is good for rock, metal, blues, and a nice clean tone.

    Any suggestions? Thanks! :D

I was told of a place selling a new 40 watt Marshall DSL401 Valve for 450 sterling, is this good? Is it a good amp?

    Is it a good amp?
    Not really.

For a time it was one of the few budget valve amps around, but there's so much competition these days in that price range, the DSL hasn't much to recommend it.

    Well any recommendations man?!

Check my sig!! That's what I would recommend. You might need a pedal to get Metal though!

Lmao, of course you'd recommend it! Plus it's alredy sold!

I'm not really looking for a Laney anyway, I have a Laney Hardcore and I really hate it, even if all their other amps were outstanding I wouldn't be able to bring myself to buy another one. I appreciate though!

Hah! You think a Laney Hardcore is a good example of how Laney sounds? That's like someome saying all Marshall suck because they've played an MG. Do yourself a favour and try out a Laney GH100 or VH100.

Yeah, the better Laney's are great amps. Might not have the versatility you're looking for though.

To be honest OP, you should clarify what you're looking for better, or nobody will be bothered giving suggestions.

    Head/Combo? Valve/Modeller? Gigging/Practice? New/SecondHand?

    Etc...More info the better

I hate the way ads automatically turn sold.

Maybe your looking for an Valvetronix by Vox or a Line6 or something that does all the sounds. A modelling amp.

peavey classic 30. all tube 30 watt amp with pre and post gain volume settings so you can get tasty overdrive at bedroom levels! it does most styles and is great with blues and classic rock, but for metal tones you would need a pedal as well. it costs about 600 euros online which is about 420 sterling im thinking?
