Will PC work in the north?

    Sorry if it's a silly question... :o

I know TVs and, I think, home telephones purchased in Ireland won't work if brought up to Northern Ireland.

If I purchase a PC from dell.ie would there be any problems with it working in the north?

    Thanks

No. Assuming you use the standard voltage rate up there. 240V.

You shouldn't have any problems, none that I can think of.

Of course it will work. Our electrical system is the same as the UK (they designed it!) and NI is part of the UK. Same plug, same voltage etc... hell the TV will work fine too, though picking up terrestrial channels with an antenna might be a problem.

Telephones work too by the way, you just need to convert the US style RJ11 that we use to the British one.

    Ok, thanks.

I'd just wondered about connecting the net. If that would be a problem...

As I'd thought telephones wouldn't work; but as you say Saruman it's just the plug that's different.

TV's will work in NI no problem either. Transmitters only use UHF in NI, which all TV's this side of the border have anyway (we use VHF as well as UHF).

The phone might not work but that would only be down to a different phone connector [BT connector -- slightly fatter]. To be safe, just use a four-wired phone cable as the BT connector uses the outer two wires instead of the inner two here. Then the phone should work just fine.
