Drink culture, drug culture, binge culture, gun culture, knife culture, lout culture...Seems every time I listen to, watch or read the news there's a new type of culture popping up around the country or globe. Does anyone else find the use of the word culture to link singular events together in an effort to make it seem as if a popular movement was happening or something? it seems like the word itself has been downgraded to mean anything a journo wants really, and the idea of "true culture", common or high culture, has dissipated. I'm even finding it hard to explain properly because its just a term that gets tacked onto words in articles without any real meaning.

(putting this here cause its a media issue imo).

You are dead right. See the thread under "40 lashes ..."

"Community" is another grossly misused word.
