Live aid, Self aid, Nelson Mandela, Princes Trust, Live 8, Princess Diana and now Live Earth.

Are you like me ...a bit sick of it at this stage:(

All those "well meaning" pop stars giving up their time for a worthy cause...well i bet you half of them couldn't give a sh*t.. they're only there to promote themselves.

As long as the earth is still going strong by the time I die I couldn't give two sh*ts tbh. If it comes to the worst we can always colonise the sun or something, I'm sure RyanAir will have cheap flights.

Yeah it goes directly to Captain Planet. Incidentally maybe it is for a good cause, take a look at what he did for Belfast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQJrovKgrTw

Bit of a farce imo, i was reading today about the carbon footprint of the likes of Madonna , her privare jet and 100 strong entourage. makes it a real contradiction, a mere publicity event for fading stars and untalented newcomers.

They have yet to put forward a conclusive argument that humans are the cause of global warming, which is what this is all about, right?

You're talking about some concerts over twenty years ago. Stop whinging.

Well that set of gigs that you listed were spread over more than 20 years so I think you might be getting a bit carried away in your search to find something to be pissed off with today.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,340 ✭✭✭Nephew

To be fair the planet earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old so 20 years is a relatively short period of time in that context.

The only good thing about this whole Live Earth concert thingy.......

...... I just turned on the telly there a few minutes ago and Spinal Tap* were playing! \m/ Class! :D

The rest, well, I couldn't really give a shít about, to be honest! :D

*was half expecting the drummer to spontainiously combust at the end there or something! :D Didn't happen, unfortunately. Would have been a nice finale to their act if he had, you know? ;):D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,815 ✭✭✭✭galwayrush

Spinal Tap were very funny, managed to flick over at the right time to catch them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Bollocks, I missed Spinal Tap! Ah well, I'm sure it'll appear on YouTube shortly :)

The novelty has worn off i think. At first it was new and original. Now it's just more of the same.
Someone needs to think of something different. It's the only way of getting any attention, as people quickly get bored in these fast moving times.

nope, it's to bring awareness about the issue apparently.

who has said that we're solely responsible anywho?

most of the spokespeople just say that we're helping the ''natural process'' along, a little too much, so need to be concerned.

sure, certain people are overhyping it and creating mass hysteria for there own ends, but I think most people are aware of that.

@ the OP's question, meh, I'm not all that bothered, didn't watch the others, & have only been flicking back & forth with this Live Earth thingy.

It was a bit of a letdown that Diana wasn't resurrected to ascend into heaven. She was our Queen of Hearts.

Rock n roll up until 10 years ago , from Rap to Elvis, the stones to the pistols, iggy to reggae , was always anti - establishment -- now it is so banal , and so part of the establishment .. from Sir Mick Jagger , and Sir Bob Geldof , to the Paris and Britney wannabbes in the crowd yesterday ...

I hear that, renegade! Those intriguing in-betweens with celebrities telling what we can do were terribly cringe-worthy. Ben Affleck saying if we download legal MP3's we'll save on oil used to transport CD's. I've been doing my bit for years with the whole piracy thing, saving oil thats used for transport of DVD's, CD's, video games, software, toast. Ah, I feel better that I've made a difference :D

    To the OP.

If you weren't flopped on your arse watching live earth what would you be doing, watching some other crap and complaining about it i would imagine.

Is RTE2 the only channel you have?

Are there no pubs in your area?

Have you not got a DVD player or DVDs you could watch instead?

Heh, I got sick of watching it so I read the paper for an hour and then I went to the pub............where people were watching it on the TV :(

Havent watched any of them tbh other then the original live aid 20 odd years ago

You'l never get the same buzz as the original live aid. Man sir Bob did some job. I laughed when i heard he was on tv telling the world the line up of who was playing. Half of the bands, solo artists etc.. hadnt even been asked and he was calling out their names. Bobs attitude was "if you dont wanna play tell the world you wont play" what a man.

A real goose bumbs on the back of the neck job
    Queen playing the crowd

Well here's mine... All these concerts are a bunch of well paid extravagent dudes trying to make the general public do what they won't do themselves.

    Examples Bono/Geldof/ Prince/ etc etc.

When their carbon footprint matches mine I MIGHT take them seriously.

Until then ,they are a pack of publicity power hungry hypocrits.

Did anyone see that short film during that live earth thingy extolling the benefits of cycling over driving?

They gave out some shocking statistic about how much resources are spent on roads for the nasty evil cars.

What do you think Bicycles run on Al!?

    Yes, ROADS!

Madonna used foul language when she encouraged fans at Wembley Stadium to "start jumping up and down" as a way to "save the planet".

She must be a very intelligent woman.

it's like Russell Brand said on Sky news afterward, most of the acts here tonight came by private Jet.BIG help to the environent, thanks celebrities. (who probably all got very expensive gift bags, as you do)

there's probably a small ozone hole forming over Wembley stadium as I type, live earth is the stupidest idea I've ever heard, I'm off to turn on my taps and lights as protest
