Probably couldn't stand the sight of a car that thinks its a plane! 747?! :D Poor 350D, and whom should I call about cruelty to cameras?

What went wrong, is it the shutter? Read somewhere that its around 100-150 quids to replace it with Canon.

Nah not the shutter, no activity at all when I switch it on. No flashing cf light and nothing on the lcd, I have two batteries for it and tried both but seems dead to the world. Call the SPCC ! :)

    Awwhh...

I'll be heartbroken when mine dies.

I was trying to decide which direction to go in for my next camera but this just pushes it nearer, I will go for the 30D and get some good glass with my redundancy instead. I have my shopping list done out already. 70-200 f2.8IS 300 f2.8IS and a 28(or 24) -70 f2.8L (cant remember if its 24 or 28) all to be purchased on the net. :) Sad to see the 350D go, learnt a lot and sold a lot of pictures it took. It paid for itself many times over.

I'm actually starting to wonder about the 30D instead of the 1D...the issue is the fps really.

    Good luck with the 30D...

I will be aiming towards weddings also so its not so much of an issue. I know its one of those things but for horses I have never missed a shot because of fps whether it was with the 350D or the 20D. Both very capable. Bodies come and go but good glass lasts forever!!

Did you try replace the bios battery?

If youre looking at doing weddings, maybe a 5D would suit you better? Not that the 30D isnt a very capable camera for weddings though.. I love mine dearly :)

it owuld be cheaper to fly to hong kong, buy the stuff and fly home than buy it on the net with p&p and the dreaded customs? wouldn't it?!

    Go for the 5D... :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

I had a 20D aswell for the wedding so no probs there, just had to change lenses once after the church. Not too bad, picked up the 30D today. I was thinking of the 5d but too much money to drop, to be honest the 30d is more than capable. I love the shots off the 5d but at this stage before September when I am made redundant the 30d will be perfect. Ideo I hear that, it probably will be and I have work planned for the 23rd of September so have from August 31st till then at the moment to get equipment. I changed the bios battery also, I am hoping that given it a week off it will come back to life!! :)

Oh and a Sigma 10-20 accidently fell into my bag too :)

    :D

Oh I hate when that happens! Lol!

curse those kind of accidents... Currently browsing on kea wondering what I can allow to 'fall into my bag' :D

Getting the L lust, I wouldn't mind either a prime like the 35 1.4. Can I justify getting the Canon 24-70 2.8 to replace my now decided not sharp as it used to be Sigma?

Only if you get a 5D too Ryan.

You saw the difference between the 24-70 on full frame!

It was for a friend in excange for portfolio shots, very relaxed. Perfect start. Are you getting out much with the camera? Hows the 70-300IS going?

Thanks Keith, I found it very hard with the bikes and the weather. I was over the moon I got a few keepers. Was my first outing with my new lens too. Ended up getting the 70-200 2.8 IS during the week. I reasoned that I'd regret it if I didn't go for the IS! It's a heavy baby but I like her a lot :):)

Nice one, I was wondering that it didnt look like the results you got from the zoo. Can I ask what it cost? Did you get it in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

I told you to get the IS!!! :)

I got it off albert, kea-photo on ebay. Rather not say the price, if I don't type it, I can still pretend I didn't pay it!!!

I didn't use the IS much at the weekend because I only had half a battery at the races. Stupid I know, but it called for all the tricks in the book to make it through the day (turning off the preview, turning off IS, only quick checks of the histogram). I managed to get well over 1k shots with half the battery. Not bad going.

Thats good going alright. I forgot the IS uses battery power.

    Back to the original problem.
I've heard that there can be an internal power surge, which blows a power board. It's simple to repair and not too expensive. Might be worth getting it repaired & sell it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

Sounds like that could be it alright, thanks City-Exile. Wheres the place to get them fixed?

My story was from the UK, where the retailer organised the repair work, so I can't really add much value for someone based in Ireland.

No doubt someone on here will have info.

my 20d died, similar electrical problem, except mines was a faulty shutter release button. cost from canon UK, via ISS (http://www.imagesupplysystems.com) was €300

ISS will send it to Canon UK for looking at. Will cost you around 60 Eur just to get it looked at. Might be worth doing in case it's a cheap fix. if not, you're only down 60 quid. Thats how I proceeded with my broken 400d recently. Good service.

Funny you should say that. My camera (20D) did the same over the weekend. Totally dead. I thought first it was the battery, but I had two batteries in the grip, both had over half power left. I tried everything for about 5 mins and was getting very very concerned, but suddenly the camera just started working again. After that, I managed another 300 or so photos without any more issues.

Try removing the battery, give it a few min, and put the battery back in.

I have had both batteries out for a while and will try them again, I will give ISS a try for €60 its not too bad to fnd out. Thanks for the advice. Paul my 20d does that occasionally same thing take the battery out and its grand, its relegated to backup now. I have grips for the 350 and 20D but only use them if I need them working otherwise they stay off.
