Digital Projection!

Ok, i'm not sure if this is the correct thread to post this in, but here goes. So i was in Dundrum last night as the 9pm screening of Die Hard 4.0. It was the Main Screen there and i was seated in the Mezz.
Anywho, as soon as the Age Rating came up on the screen I knew this wasn't been shown on standard Stock Film, but Digital!!
Now, i go to the cinema quiet regularly, about once every couple of weeks and this is the first time i've seen a cinema actually use the Digital projector they were all supposedly kitted out with a few years back.
The picture was Crystal Clear, with super smooth motion, and blacks the like i've not seen on screen before.
Normal cinema screening can be quiet jarring on the eyes with the movement in the film roll, but last night, i was just astonished by how clear (if it's not actually proper High Def i'd be very surprised!) and stable the picture was, the audio was also so well defined.
It was an NEC digital projector they were using (i could see the set up through the little window at the back of the cinema).

Anywho, just though i'd post and let people know. If your in the area and want to see Die hard (i'm sure the rest of big summer movies will be shown in the same way) head to DunDrum. Actually, if anyone else knows of any other cinema showing in Digital please post here. BUT, please have confirmation or proof and not just that the picture looked better.

    B.

lol, it's actually quite freaky the difference when you see it first. Does anyone have a list of cinemas that show films on digital? I know a load of cinemas have digital projectors, but feck all of them use them.

I know what your saying about noticing the difference. but i have to say, i was there on a date, and the girl i was with didn't notice a thing!! I am a bit of a geek when it comes to picture quality and what not, so as soon as the Rating screen appear (like before any film footage had been shown) i noticed something , and it was good! i'd nearly go back to see the movie cause i was distracted with the quality for a bit of it! (sad i know, but sure hey, it happens!)
and yeah, if anyone has any info on what cinema are showing what movies in digital, please point me in the right direction.
I was on Movies-At site, and they state in their FAQ that when they are showing in Digital, it will be noted on their site, but there is nothing there.
I've emailed them for confirmation (but i'm already 100% sure, on the basis that i actually saw the NEC digital projector). I've also asked would Transformers be shown in Digital. That is would movie I would love to see in Digital at the cinema!

You do realise that "standard Stock film" is a much higher definition than anything digital you have at home, yeah? Because I would be interested to know what you mean by "proper High Def".

SGC in Dungarvan does and has done for a while. Picture quality is amazing.

First off, yeah, i do realise that 35mm film is a good resolution, what i meant was there was no "film grain", or other artefacts associated with 35mm film visible. But I wasn't talking about anything digital i have at home (although, I'm sure what i have at home comes pretty close)
What i really would like to find out in this thread, and I'm sure others as well, is what cinemas are currently using Digital Projectors and what movies are / will be shown with those projectors.

Mossy Monk, thanks for the update!

I remember reading a few years ago that all cinemas in Ireland were being converted to Digital projectors.

Supposed to be all digital by now, what a surprise, hardly any screens are digital.
