I am trying to get my lap top set up so that i can use my broadband on it, wireless. I have connected a D-Link wireless router to my pc, and have installed a Belkin wireless adapter on my lap top. All going fine so far!! A pop up appears in the system tray to say that i am connected to d link and the signal strength is good, but i still cant connect to the internet.... when i click in to link information, there is a big red x between the router icon and the internet..... does anyone have any ideas as to what is worng....

    Thanks

Im having the exact same problem. Ive been on to D-Link about 20 times now, sent 4 emails and spent 45 euro on phone calls and i still havent gotten any closer to fixing the problem. And since ive decided not to ring them anymore now cos of the costs and theyre not answering my emails im just stuck sitting here waiting for them to reply.

    Im not impressed.

This may get a better response in the Wireless forum but I'll give a shot at answering it :).

Keep things simple. Make sure the router is assigning IP addresses [acting as a DHCP server].

OP, are you running Vista? Both of you should then ensure your network card is set to receive an IP address by DHCP.

If you're connecting wirelessly to the D-Link router, there's a little more to it. You need to input the encryption key for the wireless network.

Now open up the D-Link router's settings again. Make sure wireless is enabled on the router, broadcasting the SSID [wireless network's name] and enable WPA-PSK encryption. Enter a good password.

The wireless adapter may have came with its own software for connecting to the router. If so, you should use it. Windows has its own software built in. I prefer to use this where the card supports it. You'll see the little wireless icon in the taskbar. Double-click it to see the available wireless networks. Double click your network and enter the encyption key you set up on the router earlier.
