Hi - does anyone know where I can get nitro-cellulose laquer paint for a guitar in Ireland?

It is not available here. It is illegal to ship nitrocellulose products by sea or air due to it being a highly flammable substance and a low explosive.

An alternative paint that can be used for guitars (which I have used) is acrylic lacquer. Easily bought as car paint and also available in a vast amount of colours.

Basically, go to your local Halfords store or motor factors! :)

Thanks for the offer - I'll see how I get on with the colour paints first! I'm trying to get 'surf green' paint but I can't find a colour code for it to get it made up. Can anyone help out here?

Afaik, Halfords use Dupont paint when they mix it for you. The stuff off the shelves isn't Dupont. I'll confirm this when I get home tonight.

You've got two Dupont paint codes to choose from 2461L & 2789L. The former is for Chevrolet and the latter for Oldsmobile. They may ask you for the make of the car.

I'll get back to you later tonight to confirm the brand of the paint! :)

Be warned....it CAN and WILL get expensive.

well when I bought my cans a few years back I paid about €15 per can for the colour and I used 3 cans. The cans are 400ml. So you're looking at about €50~ for colour and maybe another €20 or so for clear lacquer if you want that. They do specials on clear lacquer cans every now and then (the ones off the shelf, not from behind the paint counter). Usually its buy 2 get one free. :D

EDIT: just to confirm unless you haven't gathered, these are spray cans. They also do tins of paint, it works out cheaper but you need to have the spray gun and you're talking a couple of hundred unless you have one already. spray cans work just fine.
