Does anyone remember a program called the greatest american hero? Basically it was about a guy who get this suit of some aliens that has super powers but the suit wasnt meant for him. Think it use to be on saturday afternoons on ITV or one of the RTE stations. Anyone I ask about the show doesn't remember it.

Of course! Ralph was the guy in question, the theme song was 'Belive It Or Not' ( I'm walking on air ) and it was all about him having a close encounter, being given a suit with special powers, but he lost the instructions!

    Now that's just wierd!

I've had the theme song for that show going in a loop in my head all day :) I used to watch it when I were a nipper but don't remember much apart from the theme tune.

    From memory:

Believe it or not, I'm walking on air,
I never thought I could feel so free-ee-ee!
Flying away on a wing and a prayer,
    Who could it be?
Believe it or not, It's just me :D

Yeah I remember the theme tune as well and I think the suit was red, kinda looked like Morks suit when he was making his reports in mork and mindy. Glad to see other people remember the program, I was beginning to think I dreamt it.

Sweet would love to have all of it on DVD.
    Theme tune rocked.

From him learning to fly and later on in the series him giving up
his powerd or loosing them it was nerdy fun!

The Love interest female actress was also in a series
call Hotel as far as I can remember it was earlier in her
    career.

    I remember the them tune:
Look at what's happened to me-ee
    I can't believe it myself
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world
    Can't remember the rest....

I remember the actress Connie Selecca played his love interest. She had a starring role in "Hotel" afterwards (one of those programmes like Dallas and Dynasty I was allowed to stay up late and watch if I was a good girl and helped Mammy with the housework).

Now isn't that a load of useless information.....

My apologies, Bullets beat me to it with that info!

I've always loved the theme tune, have it on my ipod now and play it all the time.

It was sung by a guy called Joey Scarbury and if anyone wants it, its on the soundtrack to Fahrenheit 9-11.

Damn this thread... just bought it from cdwow as they were the cheapest I could see... and thankfully I have a multi region dvd player

Can I borrow it when you're done watching it? I want to know what it was like to be 4 or 5 years old again. For the full effect I'll have to watch it on a 14" black and white portable tv with NO REMOTE

The Song and the series Intro are all over YouTube.

The song is so effective at planting itself in the recesses of your brain even if you weren't a big follower of the series back then. It makes me feel nostalgic for something I shouldn't feel nostalgic about! I usually turned the channel but I guess my ears copped on to the song anyway.

Yep, I remember 'The Greatest American Hero' well, alright.

Couldn't believe it when I was watching an episode of 'My Name Is Earl' last year and Earl and Randy were stuck dangling inside a water tower and, all of a sudden, the two of them start singing the theme tune. Nearly pissed myself laughing when I heard it. Brilliant! :D

Yea, I loved the show, so much so I got the first two series on DVD. Great memories.

There was talk at one stage that they were going to make a film version of it, like they have done with so many TV shows from the 1970s/80s, but I don't know what will come of that.

I'm a bit surprised that RTE hasn't shown it again recently, given the way they have shown lots of shows from that era on Saturday mornings/early evenings. It was the type of family viewing type show that used to dominate the 7-9pm slots on TV back then, but that type of show doesn't exist now. Probably because the soaps dominate the 7-9pm slot weekday slots now.

Other shows from that same time slot(at least when shown here) would have included Magnum, The A-Team, Hart to Hart, The Incredible Hulk, Columbo, Simon & Simon, The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman.

Play.com have the Greatest American Hero on DVD if anyone
    is interested.

Great and nerdy show. Ralph always reminded me of Condor Man.

Christ, I must be really showing my age now to remember 'Condor Man'! Last time I saw that film was on telly about 15 years ago, if not more!

I've often wondered why that show isn't one that's on the retro-channels. It's not too hard to find CHiPs, A-Team or Dukes of Hazzard (Granted, this is on Country MTV) but I've never seen GAM ever since the initial run.

They played this song on 4FM's CSI this morning. The year was 1981, but am I right in thinking that it wasn't shown here until a few years later?

CSI is a great show if you like your retro. They played the theme from The Fall Guy aswell. :)
