Does the nuvi not just act as a handsfree for your calls as opposed to actually making the calls?

How is the phone if you use it yourself (ie, not with a handsfree) when in the car?

you can make and receive calls on it as-well as text.

gillo is right its just a bluetooth handsfree you are still making the calls via your phone. Maybe try keep your phone closer the unit. but if the phone is in the car should be fine unless you drive a limo and keep your phone in the boot you might see issues :p

I got the 310 bluetooth. The only problem I've had with it ,is a caller can hear an echo of their own voice.

The latest update from garmin for the 310 ,increases the speaker volume . But it's useless ,because of the echo that happens with it.

All you do is ring someone and get them to tell you when it sounds ok. On mine it's at 80% volume.

I got one but i didn't really need it. It does not receive anything more that the main antenna receives.
However if does shift your antenna location so you can for example, get perfect gps reception indoors if you hang the antenna out the window.

You really only need it if you have a special coated windscreen that blocks gps signals or you want to do a permanent installation of your gps a bit out of sight.

Did you update the bluetooth firmware? I updated mine yesterday and it seems much better. Before it was pretty much unusable. Now the caller just complains about hearing an echo of themselves :) I can hear them perfectly though.

I've the external mic somewhere that I might try as well.
