How to play KJ

You know how it is. Some nights you seem to keep getting the same hand.

Should I have played these differently?

    Situation 1:

I am in early position with KJo and open for 2400 Hoping the get the Blinds which are 300 600. It folds to the big blind who goes all in for about 5k (half my stack) I call and his 99 stay good.

    Situation 2:

I am on the Big Blind which is 1000 at this stage. A player one of the button goes all in for 5000. It folds around to me and I call With KJs. We both miss and His A rag gives him high card.

Situation 3:(Had to edit this as was on Button doh)

Sitting on the BUTTON with KJ of spades, very short stacked at 5500. Player to my right calls 1200. I go all In. Big Blind calls as does player to the right. The flop is all diamonds and player to the right wins with AK of Diamonds.

    1)fold preflop
    2) Call depending on your stacksize.
    3)Check/maybe push

    1) Fold instead of bet! Call as long as you are getting 2/1 and the player isn't a rock.

    2) If the player is in late position and isn't super tight then I would call as long as it wasn't too much of my stack.

    3) You can't check there...! I would go all in there and hope to just be against one player and have some dead money in the pot.

    1) Fold
    2) Fold
    3) Fold

    KJ is teh suXorz

EDIT: Well maybe pushing is ok in 3) since you're so shortstacked but you can't expect to be ahead of any hand that calls you, and the limper is likely to call.

    KJo is rubbish basically

    1. Fold
    2. Don't know what the blinds were but probably fold. If blinds were 100/200 then call
    3. Depends on what the initial limper was limping with and how often he was doing it, but that seems like a pretty standard push short stacked, I'd push there with alot less than KJ.

    Indeed.

It seems obvious to me now that I should not have played KJ in situation 1 and possibly situation 2(I was still 10BB or more if I folded). I am happy enough with the push on 3 as I was way too short stacked.

Only one place for KJ and that is in the muck...

If your really SS or in position with no raise previously they are playable... I'm never calling with them though for any decent % of my stack

How wide does Villains range have to be before it's a call with KJs? OP is getting pretty good odds.

The other night in the SE I was down to the last 8 in the Emporium and raised in the Cutoff to 12,000 (blinds 1500-3000)with KQs and the BB went all in for 36,000 after a good dwell. I called and didnt think it was a bad call really until I read this thread!

    Is that a terrible call?

it depends - what range do you assign to villain?

    1. fold
    2. call if you have ~7 bb left.
    3. fold

if you raise with KJ, hope not to get called.

Well obviously he can have me dominated but the way he dwelled I ruled out AA KK AK immediatley and was happy to be at the wrong end of a 60/40. the hand i was most worried about was AQ.

so what range did you put him on then?

    55-JJ? A7+?

maybe more like 88-QQ A10+. Am I in terrible shape against that range getting 2-1?

    I made it 88-JJ and ATo+

(took out QQ as you have a Q in your hand)

You have 41% equity in this case which makes the call correct imo

yes 3 * BB raise, looks fine to me unless you have some kind of telegraphed betting pattern (which you don't from memory)

People at the table were saying **** like "that was a brave raise with KQ" !!

I thought it was fairly standard to raise there??
