Mac mini - Tool for opening

Can anyone who has tried it let me know what they recommend as a tool to open a mac-mini? I have seen the various guides suggesting a putty knife and even plastic putty knives as being ideal for popping it out of its case. I'm going to do a ram upgrade on it.

I can't seem to find anywhere that sells putty knives in Dublin city centre though or preferably the plastic ones. Any other (sane!) suggestions for tools that would do the trick would be appreciated. No hammers or chainsaws, cheers!

One of those old style wallpaper strippers. All you need is a thin enough blade to start seperating the casing. I'm sure there's a video online how to do it if you try Google. The G4 was ok to open anyway, although I think its a bit trickier with the Intels.

not sure if you want to try it but I've used a pizza cutter, the wheel one.. slid it through and poped all the clips. :D

Thanks for the suggestions. Never thought of the pizza wheel :) Might give that a shot later. Ram sitting here crying out to be installed.

I used one of these... twice now...

The small screws inside the mac mini are a bytch to get back in due to the narrow tunnel they're buried down. Still the beasts I upgraded are happy with two out of the four screw so I'm happy too LOL

I think the wifey had picked two of these knives up in woodies...

Anyway I'd forgotten it was in my carry on bag and it survived 3 hand searches in 3 different countries last weekend. Which is scary...

I ended up trying the pizza cutter and that worked great. Upgraded the ram, upgraded the hard disk, lost a screw.. I suspect 3 out of the 4 screws will keep it in place happily. Those screws are irritating to get out without magnetic head screwdrivers.

Now though I am having some problems with the airport wireless. I'm not sure its connected back in properly. Either that or I fried it somehow with static. Probably loose connector I suspect. Update : as it happens the connector was loose and easily fixed. Plus I found that missing screw too. Now to seal it all back up and tuck it away.

Overall it was somewhat easier to upgrade than I thought but I'd rather only have to get the case open once. Still its 2Gb of Ram and a faster 7200 drive now.
