I've quite an expensive item up for sale on ebay (starting bid €750). the auctions due to expire tomorrow and the only bidder has now message saying they want me to cancel their bid.

i told them im not cancelling it and even told them how to retract their bid. but the bidder now doesnt want to retract themselves because it will show up on their profile.

im thinking its their tough luck and you shouldnt bid if your planning on retracting. also im thinking that i've currently 26 people watching the item so the current bidder may well get outbid anyways

what do you all reckon i should do?

Oooh .. tough one.. You dont want to come across as a nasty ebayer, and yet, you're right to not cancel his bid. It was his mistake.

Let the auction run its course and then if he's not outbid, just withdraw the item. I know its expensive to relist, maybe you should get him to come up with that?

Tell him to withdraw his bid if he wants, otherwise you'll let the auction end and if he wins you'll file non paying bidder strike against him. That would be worse than having a bid withdrawal on his profile.

If you do go the non-paying bidder route then eBay will refund your listing fees as the sale didn't go through.
