Friend of mine has a iBook G4 running OS X and is naturally concerned as her antivirus is about to expire shortly.

She's not very computer literate, and I'm a Windows man :), so can anyone recommend (preferably freeware) good Antivirus and Antispyware programs - I'm thinking the Mac equivalent of AVG Free / AVG Antispyware would be ideal.

    Cheers!

prob best to post it in the mac forum.

although most of the responses will tell you that she doesnt need it unless she is concerned about passing viruses onto other windows users.

See the August 2007 issue of PCWorld, page 119, subtitle "Myth 10: Macs are safe from malware attacks."

Security researcher Dino Dai Zovi hijacked a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.4 in less than 10 hours winning a $10,000 prize. He discovered and exploited an Apple QuickTime vulnerability.

In Computerworld, Zovi declared the Mac operating system to be less secure than Windows Vista.
