Lasik - Galway Clinic

Considering getting lasik done. Anyone get it done in the Galway clinic - how did it go (any horror stories!).

Its a wee bit cheaper in dublin but seeing as the clinic is across the roundabout from my house it makes sense to get it done here.

Also, with the med1 form to reclaim the tax, do you have to wait til year end, or can you reclaim straight away

    Thanks

I am booked into to get surgery next Thursday, my doctor got it done there and I decided that he would have chosen a very good place so that made my decision for me. When I was at my consultation, they seemed very professional and friendly also.

    Fingers crossed!!

    Best of luck!

Let me know how you get on - your right, if a Doctor was happy with it, its probably ok.

I know someone who got it done with the same surgeon 3 years ago - it went fine, she has perfect vision now and no night glare.

Oh yeah, can i ask, as its not in the brochure, do they do wavefront guided lasik - supposed to cut down on night glare issues

I'm not sure, only heard of that in the last week so wasn't aware of it. Will let you know the results, getting a bit anxious now but got my perscription for valium off them yesterday so all is looking good!!

    Hi

Read up on wavefront if its not too late. I just rang galway clinic and they dont do it. Most of the places in dublin offer wavefront guided lasik now.

I am just back at work after my surgery and my God it's great!!! Excellent staff and no problems or even marks afterwards, I would highly recommend them. :)

Nice one - I think im going to get it done soon too. Was your prescription high, and was it Lasik you had done or one of the more painful sounding procdures:) ?

I think im going to get it done in the Wellington Eye Clinic (google it, they've a decent website) in dublin since they seem fairly ahead of the curve in terms of technology, and offer a life time guarentee (on ability to drive without glasses, although not sure what happens with natural tapering off of the eye as you get older).

Glad its worked out for you down here though.

littlebug, I rang galway clinic and its 2100 per eye and 220 for consultation. Steamer can probably confirm if thats correct.

Wellington in dub is 2050 per eye and 100 for consultation. The 100 is waived if you proceed with surgery and then 15% off for vhi makes it only 3485 which is about a grand cheaper pre tax relief - not too shabby.

It cost 4200 for both eyes and 200 for the consultation. It's also a lifetime gaurantee. I realise that it is more expensive but I went there because I had heard such good things about them and I didn't want to be based in Dublin, having to go up and down for checkups etc.

They were so nice there and made me feel at ease etc. I would higly recommend them.

If your prescription isn't very bad (for example less than -6) you don't need Laser. I've heard some horror stories.

I assume that you have no idea what a perscription of -6 is otherwise you would not say that. I was -4 and I had trouble seeing people across a small room and it has changed my life getting the surgery done.

Secondly, even if you have a perscription of -1, you still need glasses or contacts so that is enough of a reason to get the surgery.

Finally, do not post on a website about laser eye surgery that you have heard horror stories. People want to know facts about the procedure not rumours.

    Rant over.
