The Skerries Road Races are on this weekend.

    Practice: Friday 6th July 3pm - 9.30pm
    Races: Saturday 7th July 9.30am - 6.30pm

    Anyone else going?

There will be road closures in the area and I'm not sure about parking around there. I will be travelling by train as it's only a 6min journey from Balbriggan.

Hmmmm!!!! I've missed the last few. We've always been up at the campsite though, is there a good vantage point withing walking distance of the train station? When I say walking distance I mean with two kids, so not very far at all.

I've never been to the races before so I don't know the good spots. The train station is located at the corner of the Dublin Road and the Hillside Estate Road.

Ah shame. I won't be around this weekend. Heading off for a weekend away and hope to photograph some puffins too while away.

Have fun, and I look forward to seeing the photos.

too far away for me there is another bike race not too far from me in a place called Faugheen near the borders of South Tipp Kilkenny at the end of this month. I'll be going to that.

Only heading to Rathlin Island to photograph them. It's not like we're going far.

Cheers for the map Paul.. Do me a favour, catch a puffin and bring him to Dublin for me.. then maybe I can get a shot this year ;)

Actually, on Rathlin Island, you need to have a RSPB guide with you to go out near the birds. They are to ensure you don't disturb nesting birds and such. So, no chance of catching one, but I hope to get close enough to get some good picts.

Mind you, the Skerries TT would be good to photograph too. I might have to watch for that next year.

I was going to be there for 9.30am on Saturday to get a good spot. You're more than welcome to join me.

If you want, you can park at my place and get the train with me.

Cheers but I'm only a learner driver and haven't ventured too far yet. I'll get the train from Connolly, one gets into Skerries at 9.26. Will give you a shout from there, see where you are. Can you PM your mob and I'll send on mine?

A friend from the area told me to head out of the train station down the road, turn right and towards the tunnel, she said the races finish along that road. I'm happy to go wherever though.

I have an image of a cartoon puffin now, in the style of Scrappy Dappy Do and I can't get Puppy Power out of my head.

    Arrgghhh. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Weather forecast for the weekend: 17 knot winds, 100% cloudcover up to around 1 then lightening off. Hope it works out nicely for you. I was supposed to go somewhere to shoot a kite gig but am limited to Dublin for work reasons. Don't know what I'll do with myself yet.

I'll PM you my number. The finish is near the school house road which I think is near the cricket club. I'm not sure if we can walk along the circuit.

I'm heading down there as well, but I have to go to town first, so I'll be there between 11 and 12.

Does anyone know, when the race actually ends?

Skerries is 10km from me so I could probably make the Saturday one, have never been before. Might walk or cycle over, depending on the weather.

Would have liked to get down this year, unfortunatly can't doss on another work day. The last time I was there so was Joey Dunlop, so it's quite a few years ago. Managed to get all around the track, even on the inside of turn 3, the bikes were nearly scraping my lens as they passed.I suspect the marshals are a bit strictor now. For those that do go do go around the back of the track to gillies leap, the bikes come over that hill at a good speed, front wheels up.Makes for a good pic if you get a good vantage point.

It's very easy to travel around the race track at skerries ,normally enough time between races to travel comfortably to each vantage point.
Theres a big field as a car park ,thats where you'll get the air born shots .

Don't know how far the track is from the rail station though ,a guess would be more than a walk:(

A good spot is near Dublin corner where if there is any dicing going on you'll be in a good position to catch them.
