Invitation to Comment on Railway Passenger and Third Party Guidance

The Railway Safety Act 2005 places a legal obligation on everyone carrying out activities on or about the railway to consider their safety and the safety of others.

The Railway Safety Commission (RSC) has prepared draft guidance to show all external parties how their various activities might affect railway safety and how these risks can be controlled:

    Volume| Title| For anyone:

1| Developers| Engaged in development and industrial activities near to the railway
2| Neighbours| Living, working or going to school near to the railway
3| Crossing the Railway| Crossing the railway either by bridge or using a level crossing
    4| Passengers|Using the railway
5| Emergency Services| Engaged in emergency services

These documents define the ongoing obligations for anyone carrying out any activity near the railway (including mainline railway, Luas, heritage and industrial railways).

The guidance can be found at www.rsc.ie There is an opportunity to comment between now and 31st July 2007.
