Its been bugging me for ages but could anyone tell me that if you have a baritone guitar could you still tune it to standard or will it mess with the tension etc?

Also could anyone point out some net sites that are good for ESP(LTD) models, the ones in the stickies dont really have much in them.

    Cheers.

i would not recommend trying to tune to E on a baritone, its designed to be tuned much lower. if you want to play in B sometimes and E others, get a 7 string.

    also.

As Boards' resident Ran Guitar owner, I can tell you that they do make damn fine instruments but take a long long time. Unless you have a serious radical idea, you're probably as well spending the money on a Japanese guitar.

I dont think that ran have the type im looking for, funny enough i was looking at the stephen carpenter 7 string baritone guitar, iv played one and owned one of his sigs before and i still keep going back to them, suck a nice design and look about it.

So you cant tune it to standard at all then? Any other websites?

If it's got 7 strings, 6 of them are tuned to standard, usually, the low one to B.

I used to have a Schecter C7 which has an extended scale, mainly to tighten up the low B, but it would tune to BEADGBE just fine, there wasn't a huge difference in tension. What scale length is the Carpenter model?

Its 27", its seems to be the only guitar he uses now, even when i saw them last year for the early stuff in standard he was using the baritone, the LTD version is only about 1000 or so and it had active EMG 81-7's, the only difference visually is the LTD on the stock, and iv heard from many people that ESP are cheaper in the orient, is there any truth to that?

I was actually unaware of that myself. Still the barritone model is the one that gets you some of that low end thats there on the last 2 albums. Teh sex.

I know that they make the 25.5 scale but i like the longer scale and the low end that has been mentioned.

Does anyone know of any japanese sites that do ESP?

eh surely if it's tuned to B you could cappo it to E if you wanted rather than tuning up to E?

Well, it's certainly possible to tune to standard on a 27" guitar. It'd just be rather tense. I mean, Meshuggah's 8 strings are 30" and they manage to tune those to standard (With an added B and F#) so it's not impossible by a long shot.

My C-7 Blackjack's got a 26.5" scale. If you wanted a guitar with some extra neck, that'd suit you for tuning down and such if you wanted.

I was looking at the C-7 as well but im pretty set on an SC model, it just suits my style etc and i love the pick up layout.

Has anyone had any dealings with http://www.ikebe-gakki.com/index.php at all, Iv been told they do ESP etc but i cant get the site in english at all, any help?

There seems to be a lot of use made out of Ishibashi around these parts. English version here, 2nd hand here.
Edwards rather than ESP though if you're picky.

Ikebe arent geared towards international sales. They'll do it, but it's not like Ishibashi where they have a dedicated English-speaking sales force. Generally it's a PITA and most people go with Ishi instead
