Im just wondering something- My company put 2 jobs up in the Indo last week, 1 for an office administrator, the other for a storesman - I GOT 32 cvs for the stores job, but only 2 for the admin job- why is this, Is there a shortage, or is it an undesirable career. We filled the stores job no bother, but seem to be struggling, Is there anywhere other than the Indo for staff?

PM me the details, I may be interested ;)

It could mostly boil down to location, and there may be loads of admin jobs going. Or maybe there was not enough detail in the ad?

I'm surprised too. I usually expect office admin roles to have plenty of applicants. That said I've seen situations where two identical recruitment runs produce an abundance of good applicants on one occasion and a barely provide an interview group on another.

What salary did you write? I dont know if it works the same in the admin industry, but I ignore ads with no written salary.

Goslie, ya think they'll offer 35K to someone with 1-2 years experience? Read the job spec again.

It might be your advertising in the wrong place. The traditional media, national press has a vastly bigger audience then the web and agencies. So only a tiny fraction of people are seeing your ad.

Hi im looking at pursuing a career in administration and im hoping that i can possibly pick up some tips as in what a potential employer is looking for. I have applied for loads of jobs and had 2 (unsuccesful ) interviews. I was previously a manager of a small hotel and have had a very varied career ( groom in a racing yard, locations dept for King Arthur, gamekeeper) and have a diploma in forestry, but since being made redundant I am looking for a job in this area. Any ideas on what i shoud/nt be saying or doing. Thing is I have many of the skills required by the company in their ads but a lack of office based admin experience. In my previous job i ran a small hotel with 15 rooms and a very busy bar and had responsibility for the entire running of the hotel so i am well able to multi task and have customer service experience and I am a very quick learner. How do I convince a procpective employer to give me a chance to proove myself?????????Thanks

Honestly, a lot of admin work requires people to have good communication skills and I found your post difficult to read due to sentence layout etc. That might be a good place to start in my opinion.

I agree, focus on communication skills, people skills and computer skills. Those three are all important to be successful in this line of work.

My tip - anyone can get another job, but can you offer them a better job and describe why in your ad.

PM me if you want suggestions on text etc
