Applied for a part time job

I applied for a part time teaching job recently. The closing date was last wednesday (27th). Fair enough. Got my CV in and all that. Today, I went back to the same website where the job was advertised and lone behold the job was still up. However, the closing date was changed to the 20th of July :( I also noticed that the closing dates for the other jobs on the website have been pushed forward as well.

Should this be a cause for concern? Should I wait until the new closing date passes before I follow up on the application?

    Opinions appreciated,
    Stephen

It means that they didn't get enough applicants to interview, or they weren't satisfied with the calibre of the applicants they got, or maybe someone excellent sent in a CV but it was late so they extended the deadline in order to include them. I'd ring them to follow up now, say you noticed the deadline was extended and you're wondering when the interviews are likely to be held.

I was kind of thinking along those lines. How in ever, your suggestion is not a bad idea. I was going to give them a call tomorrow even before I stumbled across the update.

Its more likley harvesting, not enough people applied so they extended it. Tbh dates put people off as most have jobs or just dont fit with the dates dunno why companies put them in assume its a req by certain websites.

It was most likely a lack of response. Remember teachers (and lecturers) are on their Summer holidays now, and most jobs of that nature are advertised either in April/May or August/September.

I doubt it highly that a school/college would harvest CVs.

I would expect a closing date on an ad. Companies need to plan ahead. They need to schedule the interviews, interviewers etc. They may also need a person in by a certain time for specific projects etc...its unrealistic to think a company can hang around indefinately for CVs.

Yeah, I agree with you Tom. I suppose I will just have to give them a call soon and find out what the story is. Thanks for the responces so far.
