    Hi everyone

just wondering can anyone tell me what is wrong with my 97 mini cooper

When driving, it is a bit of a rough ride with it kind of chugging along and then at times, when stopped at lights it just looses power

I only got it serviced about three weeks ago

If any one can throw some light on this it would be great

    thanks

Is it carbed, or injected? It would help if you could tell me the engine, I'll ask some of the guys in the miniclub.ie forums for you, one there is a classic Mini specialist. What did they say the did at Service time?

    hi ned

it is a 1.3 and at the time of service it was fine, it was with mini specialist

he has said to drop it up to a gut in Baldoyle called Aiden Biringham

    thanks

It could be a blocked, or faulty injector, or it could be a fuel supply problem. Your pump could well be faulty, not unheard of with the SPi engines. Best get it plugged in and have the diagnostics read.

97 - it's an MPI, not an SPI.

It could be any number of problems, try resetting the ECU as a first and free precaution:

Turn key to on position without starting the car
    Pump the throttle 12 times.
    Start the car.
    Leave for 2 minutes.

After that, it could be the fuel filter, dirty air filter, blocked injectors, dirt in the fuel tank etc.

Where abouts are you based in Dublin?

Actually, it could be either, as a few SPI's were sold in 96, before going on full sale in 97. However, the position of the rad will tell, Mpi=Front mounted rad, Spi = Side mounted rad. The OP has confirmed on miniclub.ie that he has an Mpi.

MPI came after the SPI, so the chances are much higher that it's an MPI ;) SPI was on sale from late 91 til late 96. I've only ever seen one 97 reg'd SPI and that was in the UK.
