Hi guys, having some trouble with my newly bought Airport Extreme 802.11n, keep getting variable speeds from my broadband connection, have sourced that its defiantly the Airport Extreme 802.11n, as I've hooked a cable directly into my mac from my NTL and Im getting the correct speeds.

It never seems to lose connection just varies in speed (Hugely), I previously had a Airport Express and I had no issues with this. I have the latest firmware 7.1 (I think) is there a problem with my Airport Extreme 802.11n or is it just something I'm missing..... help my heads wrecked!!!

When you are connected are you getting full signal?

Yes there's always a full signal, Im working on mac pro which is in the same room as the Airport, only around 4-5 feet away actually!

In Airport Utility, what mode is it set to? 802.11n? Try switching to 802.11g.

Yeah it seems to be 802.11g compatible, not sure if I have a setting wrong so i've posted screen shots of the configuration:

At a glance it looks like everything is set up ok. But did you try setting it to "802.11g only", just to eliminate the possibility that there's a problem with your mac's handling of 802.11n. The n standard is still fairly new to the mac and there's been some issues with it.

I'm just stabbing in the dark here really but there's a few other things you can do to try and narrow down where the problem is. You should try connecting via ethernet cable to the airport's LAN port (remember to turn off wireless first), is the problem still there? Also try changing wireless security to WEP.

Are you sure it's not a signal problem? Open Internet connect and keep a close eye on the signal level, does it fluctuate at all?

What kind of variance in speed are you getting? Are you sure it's not ntl acting up?

Hi Sad Professor, thanks again for your replies your very helpful, again wont be at my machine til tonight so will try what you've said.

The signal doesn't seem to fluctuate, it seems to remain constant, i'm on 6meg broadband with NTL and download speeds have drop to as low as 100-200 kbps, I thought that it was the NTL at first as I never had a problem with my previous Airport Express but when I hooked up my Ethernet cable to my mac it was running at full speed and I tried this a number of times to make sure.

I've enabled 802.11n on my mac pro, the only weird thing I noticed is when it says on the mac website to check in Network Utility in Network Interface (en1) to see if the wireless adapter is enabled mine only appears on Network Interface (en2), not sure if that makes a difference just thought i'd mention it.
