    Hey,
So im starting my Masters in Software Engineering in September in DCU.

I'm coming from CSSE in Maynooth, so what should i be expecting? Is there a lab specifically for SE students? How are the lecturers? what is the schedule like (timetable)?

    Tips, advice, whatever...

    Thanks!! :-)

When I started the one thing I didn't expect was the class to be so small and for it to be made up of the people from so many different nationalities, only 5out of 16 are Irish the others come from Estonia, Spain, Netherlands, Czech, Poland, China and India.

Time table was nice enough, in first semester we had Wednesday and Friday off but in the second semester we just had Friday off.

Lecturers are grand, generally very approachable.

As for designated lab, I think lg27 was assigned to us and BioInformatics but we never stepped foot in it! Instead we tended to just go to lg 25 or lg26

As for how hard/easy it is etc…what’s hard for one person is easy for another! Generally, I found semester one to tougher than semester two, In semester one we had a lot of continuous assessment assignments, most of the modules had two, whereas semester two most modules tended to have just the one.

    Good luck in September! :)

    Great, thanks a lot. :)

Would you advise any particular languages / material to cover before it begins?

    Cheers again..

I finished that degree there this year, and got a 1.1. To be honest, the best advice I can give is to get interested, and remain interested.

I've always been into computing in a big way, but there were certain aspects of the course that I felt just didn't apply to my interests or the industry, which I didn't really 'bother' with. But I was wrong - so don't diss anything! Except "Statistics"!!! :)

Apart from that, it's a good course - you'll come out of it feeling confident in your field, if you put in the work.

It has it's problems, like all courses - but it is the preferred degree, in terms of employers.

I am considering applying to this course to start in September 2010. Looking to get in contact with a current student or someone who did the course last year to ask a few questions. Would appreciate greatly any responses, PMs or replies here.

    Cheers.
