Euromillions

I had a ticket for last Friday's draw. Today, while I was in a shop I asked the assistant to check the ticket. She said there was e20 on it. I was delighted to have won anything and took the e20 gladly!

Just now, I checked the results on the net. There was no winning combination that paid out e20 so I can't figure out how she came to the conclusion I won e20 as the system is automated. All I'm thinking now is -what if she misread it and I had actually won e202 (the prize money for 4 numbers + 1 lucky star this week)! Conversely, maybe she paid me too much...

Anyhow, it just got me thinking.. if you don't check your numbers yourself and ask a shop assistant to check them (as I did), it's quite possible that you could win a significant amount and the assistant could tell you you won nothing and keep the ticket themselves!

I've no come-back now anyway as I've no receipt or anything but I will definitely check my ticket myself from now on!

NEVER, ask a shop assistent to check your tickets and let them keep them, winner or not.
You are just leaving yourself open to abuse.

Either check yourself in the media and there are loads of sources or a lot of shops have scanners that customers use.

If you do win... it automatically prints out a small receipt.. so then you'll know if you did win.

Yeah, she had a small receipt but stapled it to my ticket and put it in the till and just gave me the 20. I feel very silly:o

Is it possible you had 2 winning lines??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭yellowellie

Good thinking but no, I had only the one line (big gambler eh?!).

I've since realised what probably happened... I think I had done the 'plus' option that they brought in recently in Ireland only. I probably won the twenty euro on the plus draw.

Edit: Just checked there. I must have had a match three in the plus draw. Phew!

Still, I'll check them myself from now on, to be sure, to be sure!

For the lotto,2 receipts are printed. One says customer receipt one says agent receipt on it. Also, theres a limit on how much can be payed out in a shop. i think its around 200 euro.

i had a ticket with a win (only a scratch card) before and the scanner was telling me there was nothing on it so I wouldn't trust them 100% either!!

Anyone know where you cash a Euromillions ticket if you've won more than 200 euro?! The Post Office?!
