Multi room phone line problem

I've received letters from Sky including one yesterday saying they'll up my dd by €40.50 cos they say my 2nd box isn't connected. It is and the connected message comes up under services.I had a 'frank exchange of views' with the call-centre which first said it's a filter problem (whatever they meant by that) but as both boxes meet at the same socket in the wall and the sky+ box is fine they said it must be the 2nd box that's the problem.I pointed out that their chosen engineeer did the Sky+ upgrade at Christmas so surely the onus was on Sky to do whatever they need do.They said NO as I've had that box for a few years.I threatened to cancel the 2nd box sub but they said I can't as I'm under contract for 12 months!Has anybody had similar problems?

Bilko, if you can connect a corded phone to that particular socket and make a call, then the socket is fine. If you have DSL all your phone sockets will need a DSL Filter. (your ISP should send you out a couple, but you can buy them in PC world etc..) Hence the reference to a 'filter'. If they insist, remove the filter and plug in the phone socket. Ask them to do a test call to the box. IF they still can't figure it out. Get an extension cord from your 2nd box to the phone socket that is 'working' and see what they say. You can then catergorically tell Sky that the problem is their end. Be is their database or Sky box. As your still under 12 months get them to replace it for free. Can't say I've similar problems

Thanks Batman.I'll ask so for a filter in PC World and take it from there.
It would be great to solve it as I can't face another losing battle with
    the call-centre.
