Wasn't this known ages ago, no?
I thought I heard something like this awhile back ,it could have been a dream though...

Boo Ninty, everyone wants online multiplayer. I see no reason for them not to include it?

Everyone pretty much knew already but nintendo hadn't confirmed it, just kept dodging the question.

Does it really make that much of a difference? Metroid has always been about exploration and the single player experience.
Rather this than a half-arsed multiplayer. Not every game needs an online section. Whats the point in creating a sub par online section ala the Darkness which no-one will play and just gives the illusion of added content?

If you want to play Metroid online, get yourself a copy of Metroid Prime hunters and see how to ruin a fantastic series of games by pushing it in the wrong direction.
I for one am glad of this move by Retro/Ninty, Metroid will always be a purely singleplayer to me. Them including an online mode would have been a waste of valuable development resources imho.

    I can't ****ing wait for this game!!!:D

yea but the thing is... the wii really needs an online game that works. no stupid friend codes and somethin that will kkeep the gamers playing after they have finished the main game. Halo 2 is probably my most played game and I only finished the one player a few months back because the multiplayer was great. If they just keep neglecting the multiplayer they will eventually begin to lose....again

Nintendo were always big into the multiplayer. Im sure with games like smash brothers brawl theyll kick everyones ass with online modes.

Not with the friend code system they won't. And fighters usually don't work very well in online mode.

They don't seem too interested in online multiplayer at all. If they don't want that for their own games, fine but I'm a bit baffled as to why they haven't allowed third party developers to create online games up to now. They didn't disclose the online features to these developers.

i meant multiplayer in more of a general sense like back in the n64 days they always pushed multiplayer in games like mario kart with the four controller ports etc, its wierd they havent made better use of online yet.

The friend code thing really sucks alright i hope they come to their senses and get rid of that.

i take it i'm the only person who doesn't mind the friend codes then....

But yeah, i was never looking for an online multiplayer mode in MP3, so this isn't a disapointment to me at all. I'd rather a solid single player game, than yet another game with online tacked on for no real reason than every other game has it.

They could have had a good single player and good online multiplayer if they wanted. Consoles have been offering online play now in one shape or form since 2000, it has become part of the playing experience whether nintendo want to believe it or not.

Online multiplayer does require however , more resources. It requires more worker-hours to write the online code, create the maps, and so forth. It also requires the purchase and maintenance of servers to catalog games in progress so that players can find them. Essentially, what it requires is more money.

The money to develop and implement online multiplayer comes from the publisher. Nintendo is publishing Metroid Prime 3. You know they've got the money to support the addition of an online component, and if they were interested in doing more than the bare minimum for their fans and supporters, they'd be throwing money at Retro to finance an online multiplayer component. This just proves (again) that all they really want to do is milk their cash-cow franchises and do absolutely as little as possible to maintain their image and their fanatical following.
This also sets a very clear precedent. Metroid Prime 3 would have been the flagship title for Nintendo's online service, had they cared to actually implement one. Given that Nintendo is publishing the game, they are in direct control of whether or not to include online multiplayer, and we can all see what they've chosen to do. They really needed to show the full capabilities of the machine with this one. At this point it looks like we won't be seeing any real commitment from nintendo towards online play this generation anyways.

I don't think there could have been a good multiplayer experience. Metroid Prime is not an FPS, the point of the game isn't to run around and shoot everything that moves and the controls reflect that. Hunters was an attempt at a Metroid FPS and it didn't work too well.

I can't envision Metroid 'needing' multiplayer for anything, it really is a single player experience.
