Great, I might head up there this week if I get a chance. Thanks again.

Are there any target shooting clubs for rifle owners in the Midlands (Laois/Offaly/Kilkenny/Tipp N)? I was looking at Lakeland in Mullingar but it seems to be a shot gun only outfit. I have noticed the local clubs around here are not too keen on rifle owners and I was told as much by a gun club locally.

Is there anywhere available to cater for my target shooting needs?

    Thanks

phone the club Secretary (Jim) on 087-2613041.
( The midlands answer to the oracle of delphi )

What kind of rifle do you have ..?
What kind of target shooting do you want to do..?

Probably easier to just say that Midlands cater for just about everything. :D

Non-members can only use .22 rimfire, not sure what the story is if you bring your own.

I has a .22 semi auto, so maybe they might allow me to use my own gun.
I am only interested in targets as the wife forbids me to shoot animals or birds.

Thanks again for the info folks. :)

Shouldn't be a problem , give Jim a call and he'll give you the details on opening hours . etc..
Bring the wife with you ... another potential shooting addict .. ;)

as a recent new member I wouldn't say they were snobs but it is very expensive but then again nothing about shooting is cheap in this blasted country

Expensive - Not true Keelan. You have definitely been misinformed.

I just paid €265 of a renewal which covers all my range needs. It might look expensive but I judge value for money. (Many other clubs charge quite a lot relatively speaking for a small set-up in a field somewhere).

    Midlands
Pistol Range and a Club House
Rifle Range (out to 600yds) and a Club House
    Shotgun Facilities
    Good parking
    Nice people

Snobs - Not true - Midlands is the most successful club in the country and it's natural that some people over the years have various reasons for not liking the place. That's fair enough and I would not try to change their minds but it's unfair to suggest that the Midlands people are 'snobs'. I've never seen any visitor to the range treated with disrespect or anything other than a friendly helpful approach.

Drop into them and have a look around the place. There is a major IPSA Practical Pistol shooting competition on this Saturday and that would be worth a look as well.

Keelan: .. Best answer I can give you to that is...

Go there in person, look around , talk to people ..
You will find a warm welcome .

I haven't seen any evidence of snob - like attitudes down there,
and I am there a lot.

Second hand opinions are frequently faulty goods.

    Expensive ?

My renewal fee.. €265.00 for a year , for my main passion in life.?.
Naw ...Cheap at twice the price.
(See how much value you can get out of that in pubs and nightclubs ? )

If in doubt ...ring the club and ask .. 087 -2613041 (Jim)

€200 to €300 a year for any club providing facilities to their members has to be considered cheap. I know there are field sports clubs such as GAA and Rugby that are cheaper, but some of those are only providing pitches and have rudimentary if non-existent changing facilities etc.

MNSCI is probably one of the best value shooting clubs around, some of the others charge the same amount, but provide a lot less.

Try joining a golf club , my local golf club has memberships open at the moment €20,000.00 , Baltray from memory is € 3000.00 for a junior . The MNSI is worth every cent of the membership , world class facilities .

Quick question, do you need your own insurance if you join a gun club?

:D:D I see jim got to you as well. i made the mistake of slagging jim on this years rates. he got out his pen and paper and explained it all exactly as you siad I 've had dentist check ups that took less time.
but all joking aside for the facilities we have there, we 're getting a bargain.
    Facilities
    1.pistol
    2.rifle (rimfire)
    3.rifle (centrefire)
    4.shotgun
we have we could be paying that fo ONE never mind the four.

I dont think so. I joined midlands without any insurance and as far as I know
the insurance may be covered in the fees.

    565ish

    Mallow also caters for fullbore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 408 ✭✭Keelan

 Thats expensive for me unfortunately, but thanks anyway.

    Keelan.

Its expensive for the hunter who wants to test different loads and zero every now and again. You only really get your moneys worth if your are going every week/fortnight

I would be lucky to get there every two weeks if i did join and its only a tenner for a guest so if i went 25 time in the year that would be 250euro which is the membership fee so it would work out better if i didnt join but i dont know how the club would look at someone regularly using their facility's without joining.

Anyone have any details for mallow or and other CF ranges

as far as i know prices are fairly similar everywhere, facilities are the difference, and travelling distance
