Quick battery question

    Lads...quick question...

My M15 and my new M4 both take 8.4v large batteries as per their manuals, specs etc.
No issues there 'cos I have a couple of 8.4's.

But I also have a spare 9.6v large that would fit either gun....question is, should I use it ?
If I understand these mystical and esoteric things correctly, I'd get a higher ROF, but would I be risking stripping my gears ?

You'll probably get a few yucks before you hear that awful grinding noise as the gears sheer their teeth.

To use a higher voltage battery you'll need stronger gears (steel or ceramic but dont hold me to it) and a change of bushings etc. Most AEG's are not designed to operate at the higher rates of fire that are attainable.

Excellent...thanks Hivemind...I think I'll stick with my 8.4 until I move on to upgrading gearboxes then !

I bought the M4 as a project gun to mess around with upgrading the gearbox, inserting tightbore barrel, 1J spring etc....so I'll just put the 9.6v safely by until its needed :)

    Cheers.

    Pfft quiet little man :D

Putting in the larger battery shouldn't have any ill effects (in theory) I did it with my M733 and its working fine. There is always the potential for disaster though so I'd say give it a go but bear in mind that you may need to buy new gears etc.
Then again maybe you should wait till Fiach or KDouglas come along they have way more experience destro-upgrading AEGs than I do :D

thought i felt my ears burning alright...

9.6 does in theory increase the wear on the gears, but all your doing is turning them faster, your not putting any additional stress on them in terms of the strength of the spring being pushed, gears will wear out eventually, this just means you'll do it quicker because your turning them faster

i'm currently running 2 aeg's with 9.6v batteriess, once is a cyma mp5-j which has been completely rebuilt with upgraded guarder gears, bushings, piston, cylinder etc.., systema motor and 1 joule spring, i've had about 2/3 thousand rounds through it so far with absolutely no sign of any damage to the gears

the other one is a stock TM p90, with a 1 Joule spring, no other upgrades, again, not a problem running it on 9.6v

in most aeg's, 9.6v will give a decent increase in rof and can really minimize trigger lag, i would definitely say try it out and make up your mind for yourself, you wont get an instant failure in the gears just by putting in a higher voltage battery...

    I shoulda just PM'd you directly, huh ? :D

Thanks for the replies lads - I'll throw it in and see what happens.

    Or....
My mate received an M733 today, but forgot to order a battery and charger.
Maybe I'll let him borrow the 9.6v.

    *wicked cackle*

Just depends on the make of AEG. VFC's AK series gears and piston can take up to 12 Volts. The Nylon bushings won't though.
