    hi all, a friend got a job offer for social welfare in longford today, anyone ever work there? anyone know what its like, i have heard its not a great place to work in, and would like to be able to let her know for sure! thanks

    Lets put it this way, whatever the job it won't be too exciting. Personally, 3 months were plenty enough for me. If she can get the hang of all the antiquated IT systems in the dept and prepared to push piles of paper round the office, she'll be laughing.

    It's Social Welfare not the bank... ;)

    My view would be that it's a job. Does she have to move to work there ? If it's close by then why not take it - can always look for something else whilst drawing a salary. Obviously it's a different story if she has to give up another job.

    Very few jobs are going to be exciting and there seem to be a good few with anicent systems but then again Social Welfare does pay out the benefits on time for everyone every week of the year (if they didn't it would be all over the papers).
