'05 Astra v '03 Astra (Also Vectra 1.8 GTS)?

I'm currently driving a '03 (Previous generation) Astra 1.4 XE and am thinking of changing for a newer model.

My choice has been shortlisted to either a -

    '05 Astra 1.4 Club, or a
    '04 Vectra 1.8 GTS

I'm wondering how the current Astra drives in comparison to my current '03 model (which I find handles very well and is very 'solid' on the road)

I'm also considering a 1.8 GTS Vectra which I could buy for around the same money as a '05 Astra. The GTS comes with half-leather bucket seat and a high spec. Again Im wondering how it drives, fuel economy, reliability, etc

    Anyone here drive/owned either model??

    My current car.....

I would avoid the 1.8 Vectra. Had a 03 1.8 vectra elegance and it was very hard on fuel. It was only giving in the low 20's in city driving. They brought out a much better VVT 1.8 recently. I would avoid all petrol Vectras and stick to the diesels.

Would go for the Astra myself.

Didnt think the 1.8 Vectra's would be that hard on fuel?
Most of my driving would be on country roads so I reckoned I might average 30-35mpg.

Looked at a few 05/06 Astras today. Kinda leaning towards buying one of them.
    Anybody here got one?

I had a 1999 Opel Vectra 1.8 litre a few years ago and found it hard on juice. That engine was carried over to the newer model which I would image would be worse on fuel due to the extra weight.

Astra doesn't depreciate as much as the Vectra either if your concerned about resale.
