Could my week old iPod be dead?!?

I just got a 5.5g iPod (80gb), I've used for about a week but just now it's crashed. I pressed forward to get to the next song on shuffle mode and it seemed to try to load the album art but now is frozen, screen is still lit too, and it's completely unresponsive, even if I connect to my computer nothing happens, it's not detected.

I'm going to let the battery die and see if it'll work after that, not sure how long that'll take as it was a full charge but with the screen lit hopefully it'll be by morning.

Is this a known problem, what are the chances of me having a week old broken iPod? It's also making a faint buzzing sound but you have to put it to your ear to notice so that might be normal.

have you tried a soft reset, think it's menu + select for 5 seconds.

Ah good old google, had to hold down Menu + centre button and it turned off, now it's ok, and that buzzing wasn't normal, well, probably normal for it searching for something but I think it'll be ok now, at least I know what to do next time!

Edit: Thanks Cremo, found it through google but it was just the information I needed! Hopefully that buzz wasn't because of something damaging the harddrive, it should be ok.

I've seen a 1 day old iPod die, and that was a replacement!

    Glad you got it sorted.

Yeah, I'm relieved, I had left it a while to see if it'll solve itself but of course not, I had found a few 'iPod crashed = dead' and was getting worried!! They should put the soft reset instructions on the sticker when it's new and not 'Don't steal music', I had thought holding play for long enough did that!
