Doesn't want the pill - options / only condom?

Hi,

Just starting to have s*x with my girlfriend. We really want to be careful and not get pregnant, but we still want to have as much fun as possible. I feel nearly ashamed writing this, as it's a testament how poor s*x education was for us.

Anyway, I'd always use a condom, but she won't go on the pill. I respect her choice, but we want to know what other options we have, while still being able to enjoy intercourse.

Do many people here use just a condom alone? Would you feel safe just using only a condom? (just for the pregnancy thing mind you... we're both fine for STDs at the mo). What do others here do if your partner doesn't take the pill?

Accidents happen with condoms (and everything else). Potentially, sooner or later, one of those accidents means pregnancy. Pill + condom is a much better option. I realise not everyone is medically suitable for contracpetive pills, but I don't think thats the reasoning in this case. Which would you both prefer (a) taking the pill (b) a baby or an abortion.

There are some other options: spermicides, no vaginal sex and barrier methods. Best talk it over with a doctor as to what suits your needs best.

There's femidoms which can be used in conjunction with spermicides, there's the mirena coil and the implant. I don't know a lot about these as I've always used the pill myself but a quick look through some similar posts in this forum should probably route up the useful links.

There are other options that are not artificial hormones, ( the mirena IUS (it is not a coil) and the implant both contain artificial hormones).

Such as the cap, diaphragm, sponge and spermicides.

There's a patch your girlfirend can get. I have it and its fab. No weight gain and no side effects only side effect I was told was by my GP was weight LOSS!! I love it.. just like the pill but no harsh side effect 3 weeks on 1 week off. My boyf loves it too. it's like a plaster almost!!

go to your GP or local family planning clinic to discuss your options. Condoms are not fool proof, accidents can happen. I got pregnant by just using them. Not a nice surprise.

This is the best website for you and your girlfriend to research. they have all the options for your girlfriend, as the only contraception you can use is a condom..

This is what i have, got it in January and have had no problems, i think it can be a bit expensive, but it lasts for 3 yrs and is less expensive than raising a child...
