4 Channel?

Would a 4 channel radio suffice for planes? I know the easystar needs 3 Which I would be getting it for but will be upgrading in the future. Would most planes need more than 4?
    Also is 72Mhz legal here?

After seeing how much an ARF Easy Star from GH&M was I decided to look online - Tower Hobbies to be precise.
Here is what I came up:
    Multiplex Easy Star Kit 54"

    57.99
Great Planes Pro Foam Safe CA+ Medium Glue 2 oz

    13.99
    Futaba 4YF 4-Channel Micro FM/2 S3114 Servos 31

    99.99
Great Planes ElectriFly C-12 Micro Brushed ESC w/BEC

    24.99
Tower Hobbies 6-Cell 7.2V 1500mAh Stick Standard NiCd

    8.99

    Total:
    $214.94

    So I didnt some maths
    214.94/100=2.14*25=53.73+214.94=268.67

OK So it comes to $268.67 after I facter in 25% tax (import + handling) And that may not even be charged! But I dont know what delivery will be but all in it comes to €197.

I cant say shipping would be any more than €50, I wouldn't say its paticulary heavy plane. So that makes it still under €250 giving €100 savings. If tax isnt charged it would be an extra €40 off the price. Comes up about €150 :)
Of course some of that might not be the right stuff so I might be very wrong...
Someone care to verifie if my choices will work right + legally?

    72Mhz is illegal in ireland.
35Mhz band only in ireland for flying models with max of 100mW ERP (though I hear 2.4ghz might be allowed, but no details are on comregs site)...

Apart from sellers who offer you illegal radio gear for your €€€ ....

Don't waste your time trying to fly on 6 cells. It will limp along pathetically for 30 yards and then dive in .
Probably good idea not to buy anything from anyone who says it works on 6 cells either! The charger they are about to dump on you will be next to useless. They know it already, and if they offer it to you, it shows what sort of operator you are dealing with.

(Who uses 8 cells even in his smallest planes, and 10 cells - or more - in most of them)

    Hi,

4ch: It's ok for most things as a beginner / parkflyer. It's about throttle, elevator, aileron and rudder. If you have bigger plane you also might need flaps and/or landing gear. If you would like to have a fancy plane later on you would consider using two independent servos for ailerons (one for each side) so you could have a better control as you can set up like goes down more then up or the other way around and you can set up flapairon so your aileron could work as a flaps. If you'd like to fly 3D planes you my also need two independent servos for elevator (also one per side) so you can make very sharp turns.

For controller i'd suggest at least 6ch one which has a computerized setup system - it costs you a bit more but later on you will see all the advantages of it. For receiver you can start with 4ch one and later on you can buy a 6 or 8ch for your fancy plane but before you buy it separately check it out as for many controller they provide a receiver as well (I bought a fancy Hitec 6ch controller and there was a 8ch receiver in box with 4 standard size servos - if you buy it in a local shop you may be able to deal with the assistant to replace them to micro size servos).

BTW: it might be a good idea to buy the first plane in a local shop where they could help you to choose all the necessary things (bits and all sorts of small things that you also need to build your plane) and also a local shop is involved in customer satisfaction not just selling boxes. (I'm not a seller, before you guys think i'm saying all these because of this  )
