I found an old newspaper in a drawer and there were advertisements for Skodas.......of 1958? Do any of these cars survive? The dealer was based in Kerry. I do remember the 70s range of saloons and coupe's but never saw the early Skoda ranges.

    I don't believe I've EVER seen a pre-VW Skoda in this country.

That said, I remember seeing a Skoda Estelle for sale in the Auto Trader up North about 3 years back.

The Phoenix Motors skoda dealer in Bluebell and prussia street has a 50s Octavia in the showroom.

There was a spectacular 110 coupe for sale about 3 years ago for 3500.

    Great cars.

There's a Skoda Rapid Convertible for sale somewhere in Co. COrk, 1988, white, RHD, very rare. It's the rear engined coupé version of the Estelle.

Have seen Estelle parked in the yard just before Wicklow Town 2-3 years ago.

I know where there's a Rapid Coupe (their words, not mine ;) lying in a garden in Galway............or was until very recently at any rate (haven't checked)

In the 80's they were very well respected in Rallying, and won the equivalent of the Grp N for yonks in a row. I remember the 'factory team' came to the Galway Rally - They had a converted old bus - like the Duple ones - where they cut the back glass and boot lid out, put in a ramp, and drove either 2 or 3 cars up into.

The crew, drivers etc, all ate, slept and travelled in the bus with the cars.

By gum, those were the days !

There was aslo a Skoda dealer near Knock for years, so I'd say if you look over the walls in Co Mayo you'll find a few too.........

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I have some copies of Motoring Life from the early 60s containing ads for the Skoda Octavia. The car was distributed by Buckley Motors, Whitehall, the Rootes Group distributor, the ad claimed there was a dealer in every county, presumably they were sold alongside Hillman Minxes, £499 was the price in 1961 with two-tone paint option an extra fiver. Rootes were allowed sell their cars in Czechoslovakia in return for distributing the skoda brand in the UK and here
