Airport Base Station with BT Broadband

    Hi folks,

Ive been having some trouble with setting up my apple router....

I have the newest Apple Airport Extreme base station (802.11n) and Zyxel DSL modem I got from BT Broadband.

I followed the simple instructions in the Airport utility (by the way - im using a Intel Core Duo Macbook to setup)....I chose to connect using PPPoE and entered my username and password that i got from calling BT's helpline. When the base station restarts with the configuration it cant find the PPPoE host..... no luck ringing BT as they say they dont offer technical support for the Apple base station.....

Whats even stranger is that if I configure the router to use DHCP everything seems to work fine.... even though the amber light on the base station always flashes and the utility tells me the base station need attention....

Has anyone successfully set up a Apple base station to work with BT broadband? Or even Eircom for that matter?

    Appreciate help on this.....

    John.

Yes, but have only used DHCP

The AEBSn doesnt need to know any user names or passwords, thats what the modem does.

I just plugged the modem cable into the AEBSn and it worked straight away. That's what its designed to do...just work with minimal effort. Obviously, you will still need to setup WEP/WPA.

Once your modem is working and you plug it into the router (ethernet btw, USB wont work), it should work. Reselt the AEBSn back to factory defaults and don't touch any of the settings.

The Airport Express Base station doesn't support PPPoE I'm afraid.

Just checked there, it is an option on 'Connect Using' .....

That should be set to ethernet anyway.

Just checked the Apple website - it appears it does. Hmmm.
I've just ordered one, by the way.

As I asked you in the other thread which you have on this - if it works fine with dhcp what exactly is the problem?

No isp will supply technical support for a router they do not supply there are just too many of them out there.

If you follow the Apple set up guidelines you should have no problem at all using it with any dsl isp - I am happily using mine with Smart.
