    Hi all,

    Total newbie to this.

10 miles west of mt leinster, direct line of sight to mast but I'm getting absolute crap reception on my rabbits ears. Surely I should be getting almost perfect reception from the rabbits ears this close and in line of sight?

What settings should I use for manual tuning? is there a way to align rabbits ears properly?

The House has coax wired to 5 rooms. What is the best way to go regarding aerials. Electrician is recommending 2 aerials in attic and piping the signal to each room (missus will not allow outside aerial anyway!) Will this work? Do I need special aerials and/or some kind of signal amplifier? When HD and/or digital come down the line can I put a decoder in the attic to cover all the points or will I need 5 decoders?

Will this cover future HD and Digital transmissions? What is the best thing to do in this situation?

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Hmm - Rabbits ears? What kind? The traditional V shaped ones? If so, you'll struggle to get a decent picture on TV3 and TG4.

Unless your rabbits ears can handle both VHF and UHF then you're guaranteed to have poor reception on either RTE 1/2, which are on Band III VHF from Mount Leinster or TV3/TG4, which are on UHF from Mount Leinster.

My advice would be to get a pair of rooftop aerials, one for Band III and one for Group A UHF. Your local dealer should be able to supply the correct ones.

The rooftop aerials can go into the attic but the quality of reception will be compromised, compared to mounting them on the chimney or roof. The signal from the aerials can then be piped around the house to each of your aerial points, but you may need to install an amplifier as the more points you have, the more the signal degrades.

As to digital, right now there's no digital transmissions from Mount Leinster. However as and when they do start you'll need a set top box for each TV or an integrated TV/DVD recorder

    thx rlogue

ordinary extendible metal rabbits ears in a V with a white plastic base

I also got a black metal single loop that can be rotated fom lying down on the front to lying down to the back - that was even worse

OK so running with the 2 aerials in the attic then, if can't get good pic I'll mount them outside.

How much roughly should these be? and the amplifier? to the nearest €100 if you can.

Would I be better off investing in some satellite solution? if these are going to cost €500 - €600 then I'd rather spend more on some satellite solution.

will the aerials you specified also work for future digital and HD broadcasts from mt leinster?

    Thx

    Rabbits ears are useless.

    HD Broadcasts :D

Digital anyway, probably, if there ever is any.
