We're planning to go to Australia via Tokyo on the way out and we'd like to go up to Cambodia on the way back (or vise versa). We're not going to bother with the fascist regime by going the other way around. Although I wouldn't mind seeing New Zealand as well.

We're hoping to go in March next year for 6 to 8 weeks so would anyone recommend the cheapest/best way to do this please.

A quantas/BA ticket will probably be your best/only option for those locations I think. We're flying Dub-(Lhr)->Tokyo->Sydney->Melbourne->Santiago (our own way to )Buenes Aires ->(lhr)->Dub at the end of the year, around 2K each for the tickets.
(We did Dub->Bkk->HK->Cairns->Sydney->Fiji-Auckland->Bkk->Dublin last year for 1600. The Santiago leg is expensive I think).
I don't think you'll do it cheaper on the web - pop into trailfinders and see.
You'll most likely need to go in via BKK or KL to get to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap - you can get flights from KL to Siem Reap very cheaply on air asia (ryanair of SE asia)

    Have a look at
    http://www.airninja.com/

This site you enter from Location and to Location
and it gives you links to the budget airlines operating between location.
For example OasisHongKong are running a flight from Gatwich to Hong Kong for about 250 euros one way.
    Try - http://www.flyvivamacau.com.au/
to get a flight from Macau to Oz - very cheap <150 euros
Macau (in China) is about an hours ferry from Hong Kong

have a look at www.australia.ie. They have a flight search towards the bottom of the page. This is who i booked with and I did exactly the same trip, Dublin - >Tokyo - >Melboure then Sydney -> Bangkok -> Dublin. Bout a year and half ago it cost about 1400. BA had a dreamtime ticket or something which allows you to go from Dublin to OZ(Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin) with a stopover in either (Tokyo, Singapore, or Bangkok), and any of these stopovers on the way back too.

We got a price from Trailfinders of about 1200 I think. But I haven't seen the details yet so I dunno who the flights are with.
